My only experience is when we lived in Suffolk. The travellers arrived. Their children went to the local primary school with our children. Aged about 6yrs plus and minus.
Light fingered little tykes, robbed all sorts of things before they left from school and other children who had befriended them.
Not something you should have to explain to a 6yrs old, that other children take stuff away from you even if they are your friend !
Obviously they had been instructed what to do and when to do it.
Can't blame the children then, but they will have grown to continue the craft.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.

dilly I'm just pointing out there's bad everywhere you go not just travellers.

When I was in school the teacher use to bounce the duster of my head, but I don't dislike every teacher now

When I was 19 I was mugged in London , I don't think everyone in london is a mugger

I've seen fly-tipping all over the uk doesn't mean it was travellers who did it.

Kids steal and I've seen people dump nappies over there garden walls

It's like saying everyone from eastern European countries are terrorists which is bull

And what kind of life is it for the women? Pulled out of school around aged 13 to clean and be a servant.

Interesting article about life here:

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2011/feb/25/truth-about-gypsy-traveller-life-women

Quote
a study in Wrexham, cited in a paper by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, 2007, found that 61% of married English Gypsy women and 81% of Irish Travellers had experienced domestic abuse. And a significant number of those women who had reported the abuse appeared to have suffered more severe and sustained violence than those within mainstream communities.

Quote
The women are three times more likely to miscarry or have a still-born child compared to the rest of the population, mainly, it is thought, as a result of reluctance to undergo routine gynaecological care, and infections linked to poor sanitation and lack of clean water. The rate of suicides among Traveller women is significantly higher than in the general population, and life expectancy is low for women and men, with one third of Travellers dying before the age of 59. And as many Traveller girls are taken out of education prior to secondary school to prevent them mixing with boys from other cultures, illiteracy rates are high.

About the same rate as the general population when surveyed. Around 1.4 million women a year suffer domestic abuse in the UK.

The surveys kick up more figures than recorded abuse. It all depends what you call abuse.

We got a figure of about 80% when doing a survey of about 200 people, we ended up with a massive tick box list to try and isolate the type and severity of abuse but then got very few replies.
