Enjoyed the diving, but didn't watch the fencing as I don't understand it at all. Happy to hear the cyclist is at least conscious, as all sorts of horrible thoughts came flooding in when the delay in an update seemed to take a long time. Would like to watch the swimming but it's not on until 3am, and that's not acceptable.

The whole thing is a huge bore, and I cannot see why the Beeb has to devote itself to showing it to the total elimination of anything worth watching.
Brazil would have been better doing something to improve the lot of its millions of favella dwellers than mounting this ridiculously extravagant show.
It is high time that the whole Olympic thing were cut down to size. Perhaps a limit set to the cost of mounting it so that poorer countries can host it without wrecking their economies. Even in the UK is sucked funding from sports venues up and down the country, and the net result of this is fewer people taking part in sport, not more as we were told would be the case.
I am suspicious of the timing of the Russian ban too, and sceptical of the implication that it is only them who are guilty. I bet every country is at it. The pressure to win medals is too strong to resist.

Dutch rider Annemiek van Vleuten says she is "fine" in hospital after a serious crash while leading the women's road race in Rio on Sunday. The 33-year-old had pulled clear with 10km to go, but came off her bike on a sharp turn while travelling at speed down the Vista Chinesa descent. She lay motionless while help arrived. Van Vleuten was taken into intensive care after suffering severe concussion and three small fractures in her lower back. She later tweeted to say she was "super disappointed after best race of my career". Van Vleuten sent a further tweet on Monday, which read: "Waiting for some research and hope I can leave today. Knowing that this chance is one in four years doesn't make it easy." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/37005595

It is not a bore excoriator It is brilliant and brings the whole world together. Absolutely brilliant Have to agree with you on the Russian subject though I remain unconvinced as to it's bringing the world together. I think it encourages tribalism, and the way the media treat it is frankly jingoist. "Another gold for Team GB!" and similar phrases makes me cringe. It is not even a healthy thing to aim at. You have to ne a monomaniac and devote your life to it to the exclusion of all else, and push your body to breaking point and beyond. Hardly mens sana in corpore sano is it! I have nothing against sporting competition, but when it becomes a media spectacle involving billions, with massive bribes and various inducements involved, and the massive spending of what should be spent on social improvement in countries like Brazil it ceases to be sport and becomes a ridiculous and dangerous charade. Enjoy it if you think this is all worth while. It isn't for me, and we'll just have to agree to differ on the matter.

Can't agree with your viewpoint Ex. but we are all different. Enjoyed the diving last night and now watching the rowing. I think we should be so proud of our boys and girls, for their dedication and determination, medals or no medals. They deserve every bit of praise. How boring it would be if we were all the same without drive to succeed. Sinclair and Innes, second in the semi final..
