Katmai in Alaska still looks pretty good although getting colder every day. Most of the Bears are in their dens now but still a few about but don't think the cams will be on much longer as no one to repair them now everybody left , season over. I've really enjoyed getting to know all the bears and chatting will look forward to Spring and see who comes back. Hope big old Otis who by the way Granny won the Fattest Bear of Katmai award makes it.

Otis ! Did he get in his den.. Well deserved award I think I hope he comes out again. I only look in on them spasmodically in the last 2/3 weeks, mainly looking for Otis to see how he had developed, but he may have gone off for his long snooze by then. Sorry I missed him. Sweet dreams Otis... Been keeping my eye on the Bison too, they are moving inwardly, still bright there though, no snow yet.

Wow, look at this view of Dumpling Mountain in Katmai national park Alaska. It shows the sun just beginning to break through this morning, I think lt looks like a cross, quite stunning.
Beautiful ! Some of the scenery is majestic and haunting too.
Just shows how quickly the climates are changing up there.
Thanks for that cools.

Ha ha....feel very sorry for these poor polar bears Granny , having a tough time of it. When they talk about the ice melting and how it affects everywhere else it's quite scary. Saw a video clip while browsing the other day of a polar bear chasing a mum and cub across the ice then killing the cub and eating it. Really upset me but this is what they do as they are not getting enough seals. Survival kicks in.
Listening to the programme tonight, it is a really serious issue. I think global warming is no longer to be considered as a ploy. The fact that ice won't regenerate itself in ours, our children or our grandchildren's life times, with the great possibility of it getting worse rather than stabilised, is a real threat to much wildlife. Plus the reindeer loosing their natural routes that have been followed for centuries. Heart breaking really, what we have destroyed.

Just watching the Polar Bears , I find it quite hard to watch. A beautiful mum with two adorable Cubs going right up to the tundra buggys which have all the people in taking photos and to me reminded me a dog begging for food. They must be starving, makes me sad.
It may sound hard cools but it represents easy food for them. There are many reports of the Bears increasing in numbers. In Churchill, Manitoba they are a real problem as they come into town and roam the streets looking for food.
I do not believe in Global Warming. I believe it's a cyclical thing of the Earth.
I think they said the other night that they have to wait for the ice to form before they can get their food, which is further away and not forming as quickly as it should be in these days of global warming.
Ooops sorry Snowshoes, I see your point about global warming. They were explaining the other night on BBC Live from Manitoba that the sea warms and less ice is forming, so there is a bigger area for the sea to warm and then less ice forms,...so it goes on. (I think I've got that right, something like that anyway)
and they went without.

Thanks for putting Pics up Granny, I did have a go but it didn't work. I know Snowshoes is right but I can't help but feel sorry for them, as I say they look starving and I suppose they have to scavenge to live. Wouldn't like to meet one though as I was leaving the local pub shall we say.
