Interesting read. I had come to the conclusion that crane had collapsed vertically and damaged the Jetty, but from looking on the pictures on here and this report I would guess the left hand/east side of the Jetty may have collapsed and took the crane with it? What's you guys opinions?
I couldn't see any sign of the riverside section of the pier so I'd agree it appears that side of the pier collapsed dropping the crane in the process. What is amazing is that both ends of the I-girder and bed have totally let go, normally something is left hanging.

I can't seem to be able to attach the photograph I took but it looks like the riverside I beam is still attached at one end. The one shoreside looks bowed, like that side bowed first dropping the crane sideways which took the other I beam out. The thing that gets me is the rails for the crane appeared to be mounted to the structure independently to everything else.
