yes,and before the blokes at adams bros,it was run by 2 elderly ladies ,one of them always had a ciggarette hanging out of her mouth.i used to join their christmas club every year in the sixties,i was 8 0r nine at the time.next 2 jonny lodgers was normans,he sold groceries ect, then there was another shop just past normans, think it was called jacksons, can,t be sure, there was a bookies opposite the bird in hand, and on what is the motorway behind gorsedale road there was the old railway, gypsies used 2 camp ther every year, i remember making friends with a gypsy girl called maria, ther were sinking sands down ther too,we used to walk across them,it stunk ,it was partly solid and partly watery,if my mum had known she would have had a fit.also there were little streams down there cos i used 2 catch little fish there, they never lived long tho,wen i put clean water in their bowl.lol

Does anyone remember the oak daily mission good news club, Where you use to go every Tuesday. And if you went for 6 weeks you got a badge. or lamounts cake shop st pauls road, creswell sweet shop, brismond's jewish shop that opened on a sunday. And a sweet shop next door to them, who use to ask you to come back with more money if you only had a penny, "I'm not walking around to for other side of the counter for a penny." The chip shop which had the first pinball machine where you won a chicken if you scored the highest amount during the week.

Oh so many memories. My mum worked in Lamonts. There was a veg' shop heading toward the ferry. I remember they had two boxer dogs in there and they took my mum's shopping basket and tore it to shreds in the middle of St.Pauls rd. The shop was opposite the swings that where taken away when the tunnel was built.
Johnny Lodger had throat cancer and had,had a 'vocoda' I think it's called ,fitted.
I was christened at Oakdale Mission, went to Oakdale Nursery, which is now a grassed area by Oakdale Ave. Was there an Off Licence sort of in a house in Edgmond St?

One inch ply the wood was, 8 layers in total. Dad made a few ottamans out of the sheets when it was taken down. They weighed a ton.

A friend of mine used to own the pipe cleaner factory. He still relates tales about it.

Wow thats brought back loads of memories. Yes there was an off license in Edgmond street called 'Crosses' I think. I remember my nan would buy bottles of stout there. There were two green grocers on st paul's road. There was Mr Lee's and the one with the boxer dogs was Cavanah's. The sweet shop Nicoletties, Martin's grocers, Pullens grocers, Warrens newsagent, Andersons bakers as well as Lamonts bakers. Nico had the chippy. I remember Brizmans (Brizzys)You could smell the new carpets in there. When you think, you had all the shops you needed then without having to go to liscard or elsewhere.
