Someone I know has just been stopped by an unmarked car in claughton village and given a £30 fine for...... ....having his fog lights on It wasn't even intentional - he thinks he must have knocked them on by accident. Hes over 40 and been driving for years, so not just some tit driving round with their fog lights on all the time. So be careful

Warnings very rarely work Pomp, as ye say laws are laws, the only way to crack down on thing like this is to penalise people caught doing it, however harsh it may seem.

Very Harsh that. They must be hard up for a pull if its as you say joe.
Ive heard this happen to numerous people over the years. And most get a warning, and some have had a fixed penalty.
And in some cars you cant even see if its on or not due to the poor design in the cockpit.

Its a drivers responsibility to familiarise themselves the controls of their car prior to making a journey, sure ye should understand that Mark. Dont blame the police on this one, at the end of the day, laws are laws, and the person got caught and got penalised for doing so. Maybe you dont like there being laws?? Its not harsh at all, £30 and no points is getting off lightly, it could have been £60 and 3 points.

So in that case, your saying everyone should be able use that lame excuse and get away with driving around them on... Penalties act as deterrents for the penalised drivers and people they know, letting people off acts as an endorsement.

he had only just set off less than a minute prior to being stopped.
The controls in his car are shite. The fog light button is by his knee, so thats how he could of knocked it on.
He was in disbelief that he had been stopped and fined for it. His was saying - no-one other road users flashed him as to say it was a problem, it didnt cause any accidents and nor likely it would e.t.c
Bit harsh IMO, but it could have been worse

Just look at it in the same light as a £20 for bunking a train.. as the slogan is, its fine because its fair.
A lot of people who get caught out are decent hard working folk, who are simply running late and have to run for the train and dont have time to get a ticket, or they will miss the train and be late for work.
It may be considered a silly law, but its there for a reason im afraid.
