Its not the siren, on closer inspection its the ventilation fan or similar.
I dont actually believe there was a siren in there now, I started to wonder why there would be? It would make more sense to have it on Bidston Hill in the observatory/lighthouse or possible a small dedicated building rather then underground.
I think the people that said there is an air raid siren, have probably been mistaken for this, as we thought it was at first.
yer i had to look twice cause it does look like a that know come to think of it cause an air raid siren has 2 fan things on either side and its connected to a centre column and the drive is the centre column...
shame soooo much of the fittings are smashed up tho
And i was looking at the hooks and other plug like things in the tunnel ceilings, i think the hooks may have had someting to do with gas pipes fo the lighting down there and supply to the kitchen. maybe?
heres my map of the tunnels we went through as I drew them (hence uncomplete parts - the places we didnt go)
i'd like to get widths and lengths tonight and perhaps see if we can break some of them bricks loose that look they they lead into rooms?

I'll bring a copy with me and add to it the rest of the tunnels and sizes too
