Anyone thought about going to college or university and getting a decent job. Packing food sounds terrible.

That's exactly what I'm doing happy It's hard work as I have to pay for some things out of my benefit, but it's going to be worth it! At least this way I know I've worked hard for it so I'll appreciate it more.

Wasn't meaning it in an offensive way btw.
You're guaranteed a decent 30k+ job after it just for 3 - 4 years of your life.;)

I didn't take any offence honey, you have an extremely valid point happy

I'm guaranteed a salary I can only dream of in a few years, so the fact that I'm on the bones of my arse now will be a distant memory then raftl

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way these days, many graduates start at not much more than £12K, many take more than a year to find any job.

The statistics don't show this correctly because they only look at graduate jobs - many graduates take a job that is not counted as a graduate job. They also have a bad habit of asking employers not the graduates, they especially use graduate agency figures which clearly have a vested interest as well as a narrow outlook.

Then there are the people who drop out or fail .....

I have a degree in Psychology but then so does every second graduate I talk to. Its just a degree and I could never have a career just with that. I would have to specialise - Clinical, Forensic. But I just can't be arsed lol
My life is too busy for further study.
I may do counselling one day but even that means doing courses and then finding a voluntary position to get your foot in the door. Heaven knows I've had enough major life events/traumas to empathise with other people's misery!

This may be of interest to people looking for Civil service jobs.
There is a Jobs Fair at:

BT convention Centre
100 Queens Wharf (next to Echo Arena)
Liverpool

0151 1111 111

You may need to telephone to book a slot.

Good Luck.

I've not tried it. Must admit it did look odd.
It was given to me by a friend in careers. Perhaps people could ask at Job Centre etc. I'll ask him for a real number!

just qualified as a counsellor. Would recommend getting your foot in the door by doing voluntary work in an agency that also offers counselling placements. Competition is fierce for placements.

Am I out of luck if the Staffline website isn't showing any vacancies? frown

I really need something part time whilst I'm in college, the hardest part being the fact I haven't had a job before.
