Never even heard of it mate. I've only found this bit of info about it: Originally situated in Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, it was later relocated to premises on Tollemache Road, Claughton until its closure and subsequent demolition in the 1990s. Wilfred Owen, the World War I poet attended the school at its original location.[5] A residential road has been named after him on the Tollemache Road site. is that the place?

Played on my school's cricket & chess teams against them in the early 70s, if that's any help. No? Didn't think so... Brian.

I have a site at www.freewebs.com/birkenheadinstitute/ which has photos and info on the B.I. I am adding to it as I receive more info. Phil.

Good to hear you went there too, and it was brilliant. I set up a site for anyone who wants to remember it pre-1993, when the school closed down. If you know anyone who is interested, please pass on the info on the site.

I went to the B.I. in 1960 until 1967.It was when it was in Whetstone Lane, and it was a great building. Sadly it was pulled down in the 1970s, and the school closed in 1993 after it moved to Tollemache Road. www.freewebs.com/birkenheadinstitute/
