They could of let it burn to the ground rather...remove that eyesore from the front..lol This is the usual trait of buildings on the Wirral. They lay vacant for months whilst deteriorating whilst the Council do bugger all...then...all of a sudden the building catches fire and has to be demolished.. ...and up pops posh flats that are built on the former ground. Surprised Liscard Hall, Central Park, hasn't gone up in smoke...yet.

Liscard Hall i believe has had fires in it though....
and yes i agree they do lay vacant for months, however i dont think its down to the council that these buildings are going up in smoke.....
i think that hotel was just due to be reburbished...what i think is....the owners were told to renovate it or it would be demolished (which meant owners lost money)...so the owners have took it upon themselves to do an inside job in setting it a blaze (bear in mind the heatspots were on all 3 floors..so someone went through the entire hotel and set each floor a light) so they could claim on insurance to get the place renovated...bingo everyone wins....

Sadly it happens all the time - developers regularly leave buildings in a insecure state if they can't get permission to demolish them - oh dear someone has set fire to it and it has to demolished.
Most of the old warehouses on the quayside in Newcastle went this way, the King Eddy pub by the pier head in Liverpool was another one.
My patent solution - the owner of a building has a duty of care to preserve it - buildings left vacant, insecure and available to damage can be taken off the owners by the council and used to benefit the communitity. If that was implemented you'd massively see the rate of this sort of fire and vandalism drop!

yes, but although you would see vandilism drop and maybe drop the numbers in this sort of fire....
Would the council really pull their weight enough to keep areas and buldings the way they should be??
Personally I dont trust them enough, do you??

but...the Council then give the go ahead for planning permission straight away to local contractors then to build new houses / apartments but delays for months if it simply wanted to add a conservatory! The Council simply just sit back and wait...and wait for the building to simply become "unsafe". It's how most councils get round demolishing listed buildings. The WBC just want to see more houses / flats built so that they can rake in more cash in council taxes! Down with the Coucil...well down with it!!

well to be honest its our whole government that want to rake in the money, not jus councils....but yeh good point, they do wait for them to be 'unsafe'....
but in some cases, it istn down to the council, as most derelict buildings do have owners.....which means its the owners that have took it upon themselves to do an insurance scam....
