The Bidston tunnels are not connected in anyway to the lighthouse or observatory There are three possible entrances to the tunnels as detailed in this thread, two on the front of the hill and the vent shaft on the hill and im sorry to say thats it

Hi all,
just wanted to give everybody an update on the tunnels at present.
Somebody has been having a go at the main entrance, tunnelling under the concrete on the right. Not sure if they've gotten anywhere on that but it's filled in atm. A crowbar or something has definitely been tried on the panel at the top right and the ''hasps'' at either side have been smashed away from the rock.
I was unable to find the second entrance, but the third does seem a possible and viable way in - bit of digging with a rope to secure that boulder from a tree should do it.
Somebody has definitely had a go at the shaft entrance on the top of the hill as a small hole has been dug underneath the concrete roofing slab and if you bang away with a bit of metal underneath it does sound hollow. It would be conceivable to widen that hole up, but the soil is sandy.
I've read through the whole thread, but I don't recall any shots of the top of the shaft, were any taken?
I'm sorry I don't have any shots to show you at present, unfortunately when I got down there I found my camera wouldn't record anything onto my memory card. Next time I have a day off (sometime next week) I'll pop back and post them up here.
I know that you guys have already documented what is down there, but as some others have already said, this is a generational kind of thing. I remember my father telling me about the tunnels under bidston hill when I was growing up in Prenton. Now that I'm actually living back in the Wirral after a good 15 years, I've got a curiosity driving me to explore them myself.

Absolutely fascinating. It's a shame all the entrances are blocked off. Or are they? Checking back on the maps I noticed something. The original sketch map https://www.images.wikiwirral.co.uk/forum/2007.jpgshows an emergency exit part way up the main entrance corridor. The second more accurate map https://www.images.wikiwirral.co.uk/forum/2825.jpgalso shows an alcove in approximately the same location, possibly a bricked off entrance? There's been no mention of finding it outside but maybe it could be another way in. Just a thought.
If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.

The labelled emergency exit leads to this door: Which is a steel door and is stuck solid. Not sure what is behind it though, could be a stores or just an exit. As you say, no-one has found it outside, but many people have looked for it

I thought that door was the Brow road exit. I was talking about the one labelled 8 on the older map (same side as the main entrance, right hand wall when walking in)
If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.
