Unfortunately we cant all afford an RS4 or M3. Some people, mainly young people have to make do with a small hatch. The intended market isnt loaded, so the cars will have to be built to a price so you cant expect a Variable vanos twin turbo vtec quad cam v6 fancy jobby like an M3 or Audi. To be honest 140bhp is plenty but its not really much for the chassis to ask for, and i very much doubt nissan would sell a car without sorting the chassis to match. Its never going to be intended as an out and out supercar and never will be so i wouldnt feel threatened by it.
I doubt nissan will sell it over here anyway.
But if they do, what i like about it is the aftermarket availability if it is a good car. All itd need would be some brakes and coilovers and wind the boost up a bit and youd have a properly sorted car that doesnt cost a bomb second hand, like a Fiesta RS Turbo or Starlet Turbo.
I HATE cars.

Not once did I say I liked the car. Ive driven a Micra for a few years, nd yes its fun, but its not a serious preformance car. They got worse as they carried on, so Nissan are gonna have to pull something out the bag. Id never buy one, Im happy with the Alfa thanks

As a car, it may be very good. But seeing as not everyones after a Performance car, I refuse to concede.
Whats the point of owning a Big, 3-500 BHP Monster, if you cant use it? Is it to be safe in the knowledge that you "Could" use it if wanted.... but cant? In the real world, its just not practical.
Thats not a dig at you by the way man... More a dig at the reason these cars are made.

Howver the point about the 500bhp monster...having driven some sheds in my time..and some beasties...i have to conclude an engine with an excess of power is safer that a little underpowered engine..simply because in a powerful car you can either brake or acclerate to get out of harms way..in a little car you can only brake...which isnt always the right thing to do!...

I see what your getting at, but in that situation, another problem is the way people react to a incident. Say we're on a motorway, and a car in front has a blowout, spinning violently. Most people will simply slam on the brakes, and hope for the best, at which point they hit the spinning car,and the car behind slams into them etc.. The emphasis should be on trying to avoid the object in front, by steering away or what not. Am I right in thinking this is what they teach on advanced courses?? In a race, drivers are tought to aim for the spinning car, because 90% of the time, the car will have spun out of their path. Unfortunately though, using that Crash video in the video thread as an example, with the trucks colliding and exploding, the cars on the inside of the truck stood no chance watsoever, with 50bhp or 500bhp... Well never be 100% safe

I went for a good blast today in the work van, and i reckon its a good case for an arguement against little fun cars and high performance cars.
I was out skelmersdale way in the country lanes and its only a 1300 cdti corsa van (not a big booted one, just a corsa with panels and no back seats) and i had some good fun. In my car, a pretty sorted 200+bhp car, you can never quite push it to its absolute limit incase it bites, and the speeds you carry and rates at which you accelerate and brake is much more vicious and equally as dangerous and risky. But in the little corsavan you can rag the tits off it, giving it 110% fullwell knowing your safe, and theres no chance of wrapping it around a tree at 120mph. Im not going to argue that it feels as fast, thats silly, it doesnt, but i reckon its just as much fun.
At the end of the day though, you dont see me trading the RS in anytime soon for a 1300 DIEsel corsa do you?
You can have fun in anything if you want but you should never discount the little runabouts, ever.
I HATE cars.

I agree, cc's rule, but turbos are a genuine replacement.
If a 1 litre engine runs at two bar of boost, theoretically it can burn the volume of 2 litres. Its not quite that simple but you get what i mean.
One answers rules all though, big engines with turbos.

Dont confuse volume with pressure

Well, im not sure if it works out right, but keeping it simple if atmospheric pressure fills a container to the volume of 1000cc if its at twice the pressure, then shouldnt it double the volume because of the compression? I know youd have to allow for temperature increases and any changes in humidity etc but would that be right? If you know better then tell me cause i find it interesting. Im boring like that you see.
I HATE cars.
