Different Horse and Jockey, the one you're referring to was by Arrowe Park roundabout, and as you say it was replaced by the Arrowe Park Hotel.
The one I'm referring to is at the other end of Arrowe Park Road, in Upton (for some reason I don't seem to be able to find a decent picture of this Horse and Jockey).
This was built in the 1960s, and replaced the one in Ford Road/Rake Lane which was replaced with a Co-op supermarket.
Cheers... thats a blast from the past.... worked there as a barman for a couple of years, about 20 years ago, but have never been in since the day I left the job to move away.. I would usually have a lime cordial behind the bar, and on my last day, everyone I worked with had been sneaking Vodka into it all day, by the time I left, I practically fell out the door...and then missed my train because I fell asleep, so moving away was delayed until the next day, with a massive hangover
today I was told that it was haunted and that it was built on nuns burial grounds
The Nuns burial ground is at the bottom end of Upton Hall Convent's grounds, and is still there (and in use).
The new Horse and Jockey is built on the site of Greenbank House, near to the churchyard of Greenbank Church, but the undertakers office is built on the actual churchyard (there are some grave shaped indentations appearing in their car park!!)
In the late 60's I used to cut through the graveyard behind the H&J to my girlfriends house. It had flat lying stones which covered the graves. Many of them had been broken open. It was all covered over when the funeral home opened up.
