The Avenue Super Cinema was opened 2nd February 1928 Unfortunately, it was a casualty of the blitz on 12th March 1941 The site was eventually cleared and The Avenue pub was built there
The Avenue Cinema following the bombing of 12/13 March 1941. The foundations were deemed unsafe so the building was demolished.
The Avenue pub was built in 1957, and under the post war agreement, it used the licences from the Canada Hotel and the Boar's Head (both of which were bombed).
there's a book called The Silver Screens of Wirral by P.A.CARSON and C.R.GARNER it's got a bit more in it than I posted Just got the book for Xmas so will be returning the library copy to Northend library in a week or so Let me know if you want it and I'll let you know day and time I return it
other books to return Yesterday's No7 Wirral bt Ian Boumphrey Nostalgic Wirral edited by Pauline Black Yesterday's Birkenhead a pictorial history (very good} by Ian Boumphrey
Cheers Derek. I have to go to Central to take all the kids books back, so I'll look for it there or reserve it whatever's easiest. I thought a few of the houses nearest to the cinema on Norman Street were also bombed? My nan and grandad's house was the only one near the end not deemed unsafe to live in afterwards (no 35).
the books I have are from Central just easier to take them to Northend Saying that I want to take photo of Central and other libraries before Council gets shut
