I believe my ancestors ran the Glegg Arms in the 1890s. I have also been told about a pub that was in an area, in the docks I think, known locally at the time as the Gourri (don't know how to spell it) Piazza. Does that mean anything to anyone please? I think this would have been in the late 19th century. Thanks.

pic off norton The Glegg Arms, Gayton, in 2003. It's hard to spot the Pub name as the "Out & Out Restaurant Pub" branding grabs your attention

Used to be a good pub --- once! Gourri Piazza was on Liverpool waterfront & they have renamed another area with the same name.

When you compare how it looked in the 1910 & 1947 photos to what it looks like now...... ? They ruined it with that tatty crap frontage. Yes Tatey, it WAS a good pub. A favourite watering hole of mine in the 70's. At least it hasn't closed - yet !

Well, they haven't changed the upper storey much, but the dragon at the apex of the gable has lost his wings.

Agreed, it looked much better before . The roundabout area looked a whole lot nicer when both this pub and The Devon Doorway opposite, were both a striking black and white.
