the pub you refer to is the swan hotel known locally as the blazing stump,it was supposed to have got its nickname from an old sea dog with a wooden leg who used to poke the coal fire with the same leg,the pub is on the wallasey.

Chetwyn Arms Bidston Road not far from the Wirral Ladies Golf Club, but on the opposite side, and was built to accommodate the Quarry workers before Flaybrick Cemetery was opened. It was converted into two cottages which can clearly be seen today

Theres a pic of the old pub in one of the Ian Boumphrey books,,, but can't find the book at the moment cry

In 1891 was run by Joseph Price. Also named on the census was my grt grandmother working as general servant.

mark.just thought of a pub we used in 1963 or there abouts it was called the york hotel victoria road new brighton very much a seaside pub with a glass dome roof.incidentally my father was the landlord of the travellers rest at the bottom of rowson street,between 1958 and 1964 it now has an irish name ,between 1964 and 1966 my father was landlord of the black horse lower heswall,hope this is of some use to you,regards.
