My Nan and Grandad lived in the Morphos too, in the early fifties. They weren't there for long though, it was a busy old street was Wood Street, as indeed so was the whole area. It's strange to walk round it now.

My Grandad lived on Price Street in 'A big house' when he was a lad in the 30s and 40s. Somewhere near there but never did find out exactly whereabouts frown I live round the corner from there now smile

The Morpeth Buildings, though they were in Wood St, Wood St wasn't part of their postal address, Something else I've noticed, the low numbers are the furthest away from the town hall,( first map ) i always thought the low numbers started at the town hall end.

That was usually the case as far as streets were concerned, but the 'rule' was often disregarded when it came to discrete terraces of property, or flats and tenement blocks: these were often simply numbered from the left to right as you looked at the front of the buildings.

My Grandad and Nan lived in Priory Buildings after the the Morphos and then after Grandad died she moved to Beaufort Buildings I think it was called, another block of flats at the town end of Beaufort Road. From what I can remember as a kid they were all ok and they never had any hassle not like what happens to some old folk today.

Beaufort Square, Bandy, and when they knocked it down my sister had to move out of her house in Patten St, due to cockroach infection, sold up in the end, couldn't get rid of the buggers.

Since talking to my older sister (by 9 years) she said that we lived in 41 Morpeth Buildings, my maternal nan at 41 Morpeth and my uncle (mum's brother and his wife) lived in 43 [a floor up].

I'm new to the Wiki. Interested in any information relating to Morpeth Buildings. My mum was born at no. 33 in 1932.
