Anybody got any old pictures of birkenhead churches. I can manage Holy Trinity, St Laurence's and St Paul's. I would love to see pictures of St Peter's, St John's, St Matthew's
This was the Birkenhead Catholic Cathedral designed by Pugin in 1860. It was never built, but a modification of the design, most notably the removal of the 127 foot tower and spire, was built two years later as Our Lady's.
Well done Upton, I have never seen a picture of St Luke's Tranmere before, it had a school attached which must be that building behind it. I don't remember them, but I must have walked past them many times.
Here is a photo of my grandfather at st johns school around 1915 i think. Thats him on the front row between the 2 sailors. I love these old class photos maybe we should start a thread.
St.Michael & All Angels was in Carlton Rd. My parents were married there. Funny, but I've never thought of Carlton Rd. as being in Claughton, but it's on the marriage certificate too. The church where the Pyramids is was St. John's. There's still a St.John's St. off Grange Rd. The church was on the other side of Grange Rd. immediately opposite St.John's St. Huskisson St. went round both sides of the church, then joined up again & went into Borough Rd.

Thanks for that chriskay, I've only a very faint memory of that church and couldn't work out it's location. Next time I'm down that way I'll try and place it. Thanks for taking the time to answer..
Hope someone has a picture of it to post... I seem to remember a tall spire....
Brilliant picture. Thats where my grandparents were married. My grandmother was a catholic. My grandparents lived in Howe st which was just off Grange road very near to St Johns church. Thats why my mother had me and my sister baptised there. I can vaguely remember the church. It faced Grange Road and the road went either side of the entrance. Would love to see a picture of it. I would also like to see a picture of St Peters as that is where my parents were married.
