Aye! Aye! That sounds interesting?! I'd like to know, love history me-esp local. Love the stuff ive saw on here-i can amaze and bore me mates in equal measures. Lol. Picked up a archive leaflet today-just prior to becoming a 'one stop shop victim'- ie bored to a cätatonic state, never to retrieve a level of functionality.
i dont know, and i dont even know if you can access any near-by location to view it.
I cant go view it anyway a BIG influx of coursework has bogged me down. Meaning i cannot attend the Village Walk either Sorry to let anyone down or to make things complicated
But as soon as this is out the way, it leaves me with more time to attend any other Wikiwirral events !

First job of the day is to get the big angle grinder and (try to) cut up the old door so I can take it to the tip. Should be fun. Unless of course anyone WANTS an old up/ over metal door and will take it away.

OK, try again. I had the captions associated with the wrong photos (which made some of them a bit funny)

To explain to others - we saw this gravestone today and thought the inscription was rather strange. It looks like we'll have to do some digging to see if we can find out anything.

Whoah! We got onto something there, girls?? Wayhay 'wiki sisters doing it for themselves'. Exciting stuff. Thanks softy. Im buying sues suggestion of her being a maid- we'll see!!
Edward CUST became the new owner in 1826- 1878. ? Name change? Its edward i think we need to learn about because the family forked out for the stone coz she, ann was his mrs. Funny tho, edward was the son in law of the woman who has a memorial on breck rd- thread somewhere on here. I got this from www.leasowecastle.com and as a nursury age level historian i'm too excited to read it proper! Lol
Well....me+ sue 'bailed out' of the bidston basement 'dig' ''coz we're girls and so we dont have to dig+ remove rubble'' - lol so maybe its 'payback'. 3 girlies- we picked up on the 'oddness' of the inscription. Female intuition?!? Yer, like everything it may turn owt to be nowt but the fun is in the procesß of finding that out.... Ive never researched history before and i am aware that i would be quite capable of getting excited over nuffin so hope the clever wiki people look into it. Im one step away from a person who would do somersaults over finding 'ann davis' on t'internet -on facebook? And combust with excitement that theres 'ann davis' on bebo!! Lol. Hasnt stopped me googling tho!
re: pic 'few of the gang'. Its the best-i fink it captures the mood 'pissed off at the trek but yer its ok, glad im here now' PLUSONE said it reminds him of an album cover-from the type of 'were cool in a SO non-cool' type band-pmsl. Get wot he means. [i cant be bothered to logout to log him in to post] anyway, am his wife- i speak for him. Its my job. Pmsl.
ok i've had a go at translating the latin on the coat of arms. and i could only get a few words. ut= To vlncio= bind, fetter; restrain; vir = man; husband; hero; person of courage, honor, and nobility; verbo= word; proverb; [verba dare alicui => cheat/deceive someone] llgltur= (i haven't got a clue i think it's a name sorry)

I got it to "Guard the honour which has gone before this is what bonds us together" Vincio surround guard, ver/verso previous page lefthand page, ligitur bond together.I would welcome another take on this as it is a very loose interpretation.
Well done to both of youse. Anyone got the time/ knowledge/ interest to research 'ann davies+ 'edward davies' with re. To the gravestone that the wiki angels found?
That sounds very plausible. What really threw us was the camel on the Coat of Arms!!!! We were hoping that the text might throw some light - it seems a very strange thing for an Enlgish family to have. I'm guessing they made their money trading with the middle east.

I found a picture of a coat of arms with three cammels on it it was a family name thing of the "cammels" as in lairds. if you think about it he had a cammel as a trade mark.

I"m sorry I did"nt think to keep it. I did find one of a cammel in a too too which I did keep.I can"t put it on till I catch up with my subs no account. I will see if I can find it again in my history
Ref Ann and David Davies A Stan Davies still lives at yew tree cottage and the family have lived in the area for hundreds of years info came from http.//www.mikekemble.com/mside/bidston.html if you go to the bottom of the page which is interesting enough you will find an enquirey from Australia with ref to the Davies and the fact they are buried in the church grounds

great news! Theres an email to contact the ancestor. Any volunteers? I'll do it otherwise. Im just a bit unsure how to word it plus it would take me forever, with being on a phone. Really excited about this development. Way-hay!
Are we getting confused here???? We're looking for the connection between the Clover family and Cammell Laird and the connection between Ann & Edward Davies and Leasowe castle - yes?????
read somewhere Clover was a shipbuilder and there was a Clover dock in Birkenhead
Have asked various people about the motto on house - no joy yet
There was/is a Clover Trust registered to a charity which gave money to people who were in need within 10miles of Bidston village Rang the person whose name was on it but spoke to his widow who didn't know the meaning of the motto May meet her at 25 Sept Bidston tour
ref coat of arms http://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/ Arms from the Fenwick roll.originally compiled in the reigns of Henry v/ v1 so named because Fenwick had his life and his coat of arms taken out for nauhgty deeds against the king..There is a picture of that camel and another one with two camels next to it, a marriage maybe. There is what looks like names below but are to small to make out. This should work towards a date and name for the masonary
I have had a reply from the lady in Oz. Unfort. The link was broken- to Ann Davies gravestone and so as yet she cannot verify whether she is related. I have replied inviting her to join our site and she would be able to find the link here.

I wonder whether the following excerpt from 'Almost an Island-The story of Wallasy' by Noel E. Smith is relevent????
Lady Cust used to attend Bidston church making the journey (from Leasowe castle) to Bidston along Reeds Lane. She would ride in a yellow curricle with outriders in attendance. The servants would also go with her. At the chirch she acted as a sort of banker, with whom the village folk could deposit their savings. At the rear of the church there was a small folding desk behind which she would sit.
Lady Cust was a woman of good Christian character and did wahat she could to help those who were un- fortunate enough th get ship- wrecked in wallasey. She was responsible for setting up the Dennets Rocket Equipment in a small hut close to the shore, where rockets could be fired to save the lives of people from a wrecked vessel.
