Armed gang steal £250k of jewellery from Walton's Milton’s jewellers ARMED raiders stormed into a jewellers on County Road before making off with £250,000 worth of jewellery and watches.
Terrified customers and staff at Eric G Milton’s jewellers were ordered to lie on the floor by the four gang members who were armed with knives, hammers and axes. The raid was the fifth major jewellers’ raid in Merseyside in six weeks and came just a day after a similar raid at city centre Boodles.
The gang forced their entry into the Walton shop at 4.50pm yesterday as the security guard held the door open for a young family with a buggy. One of the gang held a knife to his throat during the raid.
Manager Andrew Johnson told the ECHO: "There were roughly 25 people in the shop at the time. I have worked here for 10 years and nothing like this has ever happened before as we have such tight security.
"Customers have to be buzzed in by a member of security. The men forced their way in as our security guard was being a gentleman and holding the door open for a buggy.
"This gang knew what they were doing and knew what they wanted. When they came in they shouted for everyone to get on the floor. They were armed so everybody did as they were told.
"One of the gang, who were all wearing black with balaclavas, smashed one of the counters with a hammer while the others raided the window displays.
"So far I have estimated they stole about £250,000 worth of jewellery and watches.
"The whole attack was captured on CCTV and lasted about three minutes as the police arrived very quickly.
"The five of them drove off in a dark grey Audi A3. I’m not sure if the police have found it yet.
"The police have told us it has a similar Modus Operandi to other attacks on jewellers in Merseyside."Everyone was left very shaken by the incident but were very helpful to the police."
One member of staff received minor injuries in the attack. Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information should to call 0151 777 4809 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. THE ECHO
