the map only shows three entrances to the tunnel networks, and appears to only cover one leval? this is not the case, i lived in olive crescent for 20 years of my life, and have been inside the network many times. the map shows three entances although many people including you, often mistake it for only showing two (the two which are located against the quarry sandstone at the back of the industrial units on queen st) there another entrance on the quarry sandstone on holt hill, its right next to mine cottage, i dont know how you missed it as i didnt see it in your photographs and no mention of it in your write up. there were in fact five main road entrances although the map cuts off before you can see the 4th and 5th, (located between mersey mount and sidney road, behind the new flats built) unfortunatly the quarry has been filled slightly covering up the entrances, i dont remember what year exactly they were filled i think about ten years ago. however you can still see where the guns were placed in the sandstone, that protected the entrances to the tunnels ( as is the same on all the other raod entrances)the network of tunnels reaches much further than the map shown also an upper level is missing which leads to the tunnels undernieth mersey park school, also a lower leval that leads to st wherburgs roman catholic school. the air raid shelter and the tunnel network system were originaly built to protect camell lairds workers, their famililys and children. as for the venalation shafts there are six all together (two of wich have been built on four have which of been capped. as you can see by my photographs kaz
thats got me interested because your photo of the capped shaft is what i always assumed to be grage base or something but it does look awfully thick concrete,i should know as i am looking at out of my front room window lol,its right outside my house, have to have a closer look when it gets lighter tommorrow.
we have already established that there was a shaft at the corner of frodsham street and remond street, why would there be another shaft so close to this,it must only be about 50 feet away, where did you get the information that it was a capped shaft from ?
