There used to be a few of those "advert" paving stones on the seaward side pavement on New Brighton Prom. Probably long gone as the Prom has been "improved" over the years.
This is my first posting, so please excuse me if I'm repeating earlier stuff. I am trying to build up a database of photographs of old street furniture etc (predominantly grids as cast iron lasts a long time!) bearing the names of the extinct arms of local government and utilities in the area. I have all the immediately pre-1974 Councils, although I would like some with 'Hoylake UDC' rather than 'HUDC', but would like to know if there are any Bromborough UDC/Higher Bebington UDC/Lower Bebington UDC/Bebington UDC (1934-1937 before Bebington became a Borough)/ West Kirby & Hoylake Urban District (1894–97).
Also there are some very old water utility pieces with 'BWW' and 'TWW' on them; I am assuming these are Birkenhead Water Works and Tranmere Water Works respectively. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know of a source giving the chronology of the water supply companies and their catchment areas?
Thanks very much. I'll go through that thread later. Here's a couple of examples
There are grids round the wirral with "Lanceleys Ltd Chester" or "H.Lanceley Chester cast on them.
The H.lanceley one's date from before the first world war and the Lanceleys ltd ones date from the first world war up to the mid 1950's when they stopped production.
They where the same company but became Limited company just before the first war.
A few more Milestone Markers is Wallasey. They have been tweaked slightly in improve the detail. I've only just noticed that they all have two mounting holes above the word 'FERRY' - one above the F, and one above the Y.
Blanked out finger post St Oswald's Church Bidston This was blanked out because the fender lane flyover eventually cut off the footpath to Bidston station from the bottom of School lane On reverse side the writing is still visible pointing to Bidston train station and not blanked out I cannot remember what site I found it on so will have to get a picture from reverse side myself
