Does anyone have any pictures of the foyer of the Ritz, with the staircase and the ticket booths and kiosk. My memory is a bit vague, but I seem to remember thick red carpeting and loads of mirrors. Also, it seemed to me as a little'un that you had a fair old walk to the actual auditorium, and I seem to remember walking past display cases. Is this right, or is my memory jumbled up?
Seeing all those pictures of the old cinemas - especially the interiors - makes me think how grateful we should be to all those people who had the the presence of mind to make pictorial records of thes beautiful buildings in their hayday. At the time, they couldn't possibly have known how relatively short-lived these buildings would be. It's just a pity that these photos weren't in colour.
Also, it makes me despair how short-sighted the powers-that-be were to let these treasures be demolished or gutted so easily.
