WOW all these memories. I remember Rumbleows?? Like Currys. We had 3 shoe shops. I hated going in Clarks and Lotus {Cash Converters and Hot lips} with my dad in case anyone saw me!!! Shoe Express and Shoe Zone came later. The Gas show rooms where Lloyds {TSB} is. The book shop on Wallasey Road {R news} that expanded into another shop then shrunk back into one then seemed to go bust. Robert Y Knagg and son now another pawn broker. The CO OP where Mc Donalds is. Thanks.

I must be getting old, I can remember when there was a Forces club on the site of of Primarks where troops could relax and have a cup of tea and a sarnie or write a letter home.

we had 2 shops on marion street plus a chippy,a dairy behind us on dacre street.also shops on camden street and conway place and most little streets in the surrounding area.better than the supermarkets and all the obesity in children they have caused.proper food,no additives, shrinking bacon, full of water etc.also good service,no underpaid part timers like all supermarkets.

I wonder how different Birkenhead looks now to 2013. A lot of shops are now empty, but going back for the first time the other day, it was really busy for some reason. There’s a lot of independently owned shops, but mostly charity ones.
