Yes, roughly where the X is on the map. In the pic., it's between Benefit & Myers.

When I knew it,in the early 50's, Timothy White's was almost opposite its major competitor, Boots, which was on the corner of Vincent St. It must have moved later. I'm not sure where Waterstones is; is it further down Grange Rd., near the Pyramids?

I checked out the link on Timothy Whites bert1,but I think the shop existed after 1968 as I became friendly with the manageress whilst I was working at Leighton Court in 1981.If I'm proved wrong blame it on old age, decrepitude and red wine.

I remember Timothy Whites - it was where waterstones is now I think or top shop. I remember there being a Burtons and a Fosters in that row too.
I also remember Cavendish furniture shop on other side where superdrug is now.
I vaguely remember Robbs further up.
Remember BHS before that got primarked.
Toy and Hobby was near the top on right.
I remember when there was M&S then Littlewoods then TJs.
I remember the flyover and waiting for the 37 on Conway Street.
I remember the Top Rank bingo club.
I vaguely remember the Grand Hotel up by Charing Cross - waited for a bus near there too.

Laird Street
I remember Shallcross Bikes - they took up a few shops.
I remember the chandlers that sold paraffin for the paraffin heater we had in the kitchen.
I remember Ellis's the chemists.
I remember Prices greengrocers (mum always said they were a rip off but shopped there anyway).
Gortons butchers, Tom somebody butchers, the bakers with the creepy little model man in the window with the eyebrows falling off lol
The Golden Sunrise (alsation pies)
Mrs Spriggs(ings?) the wool shop.

Cor that cleared a few cobwebs out the brain.

I also remember in Claughton village:
Bedfords newsagents
Halifax
Card shop before Halifax took over (Curries?)
Miss Waring further up for knickers, school socks, wool etc.
Pilkingtons chemist - think its still written on the roof tiles (or is it Rowlands?)

Pilkington's chemist was owned by Roy Pilkington, who was Mayor of Birkenhead (can't remember when), he also had shops in Upton Village and at Upton Station. His son, Brian, owned Bedfords for a period.

Bedfords had an "automatic newsboy" outside, this was a coin operated machine which sold copies of the Echo. The shop on the corner of Alderley Avenue (now a private house) had a coin operated milk machine outside, which sold cartons of milk and orange.

The small building on the corner of Shrewsbury Road was a Police Station, with public toilets behind.

Does anyone remember the Kopper Kettle, a cafe on Seaview Road near the bus depot in the early 80s? My grandad ran it for a couple of years.

It was situated at 106 Seaview Road and by the early 1990s it became 'The Oven Door' Cafe. Today its 'The Singing Waitress" Cafe.

Thanks for the info
