Just for the voluntary part, I asked in the YMCA shop about it in birkenhead and was told they're always lookng for volunteers and ust gave me a ittle frm about available days and references. Of course I completely forgot I had it and accidentally threw it away while packing so can't tell you what they're like for getting in touch! But just a thought. Best of lucl with it all though, I know it's difficult and I've only been applying sparsely for like a year so!

What about offering your services as a dog walker? It's a means of getting out and about, won't cost you anything and dog walkers always stop and talk to each other. All of the above advice is great - especially the bits that don't sound very nice ; . Have you posted your CV on line with the likes on Monster or My Job - there a more and more employers turning to that as a means of finding staff as it means they won't need to pay a fee. If you've not done this and need help then I'm nore than happy to give you a hand.

Maybe we should start up a Wiki job club, there seems to be enough of us in need, just need some kind of location to meet maybe? I am sure we could all help each other out a bit.

Bite the bullet and join up, with your skills as a clerk would be a good place to start. You can go in for a short engagement nowadays. I joined temporarily in 1976 and it was so good I ended up signing on and doing 23 years. It gets you out of a rut, gets you back your feeling of self worth and self respect. It also may bring to the fore a character which you don't even suspect you have. Just think about it and make the enquiry at the recruiting office, you have nothing to lose and plenty to gain. I was 33 when I did it by the way.
