Yes, you are right Chris. The author (name escapes me) made a few bloopers in that book. Research wasn't his best point.
Cliff Hayes "A Century of Birkenhead & Wirral". He also famously mis-identified the Sidney St. ventilation shaft as "Woodside Ventilation Station" A great pity, since the book contains many fine pictures that I haven't seen anywhere else.
