Some of his Liberal MP friends must feel a bit guilty as well for the support they have given him, or is guilt not a MP thing either.

It's not the crime of the century, I think a lot of people would have done the same thing.

He has only been prepared to take responsibility for his actions once he knew the game was up, with the ruling as to the admissibility of the evidence of his son's txts etc.
Prior to that, brazen denials of guilt for two years, and let's not forget this man's legal team have tried every trick in the book to delay / scupper the trial going ahead, on the spurious arguments of flimsy evidence and the publicity generated being prejudicial to a fair hearing.
Now bearing in mind that it is estimated that the total legal proceedings have cost approximately £500,000, whereas all along Huhne should have just admitted his guilt, I hope his "taking responsibility" for his actions is going to include footing the entire legal bill, as opposed to leaving some of the burden on the taxpayer.
All that said, on a purely human level, what a tragedy this can of worms is: an affair, scorned wife allegedly seeking revenge, family splits, not to mention a lost political career, and worse, a probable prison sentence..... and for what really?

Avoidance of 3 points (with those he already had, a ban) & a fine I'm sure that he could have had a chauffeur (paid for by the tax payer) for the duration of his ban. Maybe he could have lead by example and become a busw@nker like many of the country. All in it together and all that

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...ree-penalty-speeding-points-8480727.html8 May 2011: Huhne's office denies claims that he asked someone "close to him" to take his speeding points so he could avoid a driving ban in 2003. "The allegations made against Chris Huhne are simply incorrect. These allegations have been made before and have been shown to be untrue."
16 May 2011: He denies the allegations in a statement. "They have been made before and have been shown to be untrue. I very much welcome the referral to the police as it will draw a line under the matter."
7 July 2011: Following questioning by Essex Police: "There is no truth in those allegations and I very much welcome the police inquiry and I'm looking forward to them getting to the bottom of it and clearing it up. If cabinet ministers resigned every time wild allegations were made about them, you would find it difficult to get enough people around the cabinet table."
20 September 2011: "I'm delighted to say that there's an official inquiry into all of this stuff... I am expecting that the results... will draw a line under the whole matter and that will be the end of it."
3 February 2012: Facing criminal charges, Huhne resigns from the Cabinet: "The CPS's decision today is deeply regrettable. I'm innocent of these charges and ... I'm confident that a jury will agree."

At the end of the day you get points for a reason and if you can't learn your lesson after the first few points then there's bubbles in your think. How many chances does Huhne need? Speeding restrictions are to stop people being injured, do we have to wait for him to maim someone before he faces the music? Just wondering.

Irony of it is: he got banned anyway within 10 months for using his mobile while driving! All for nothing. Perhaps he genuinely thinks he is above the law, then he is an MP!
