We had the family around for Scouse, served with -as per tradition Crusty Bread and Beetroot.

Delish- even if I say so myself! Cooked it yesterday- it is certainly true that Scouse is best served the day after cooking. The meat was 'melt in your mouth'. Yumyum yumyum

I've started to try making scouse once a week
How much are you spending making it rudebox?

pot herbs = 79p B'head market
stewing steak = £3 B'head market
2 tins potatoes = 38p (19p a tin in Aldi)
4 oxos

under £5
Will buy some beetroot after seeing your post

1lb lamb breast £3.50
1lb beef brisket £3.20
2lb carrots 50p
3lb potatoes £1.50

All of the above items were reduced in Morrisons. I can see birkenhead market would still be cheaper for the meat.

Mushrooms 79p
2 Onion 66p
4 Oxo (had in)
Beetroot (had in)
Crusty Cobs (2 x 6) for £1 Morrisons.

Grand total= £11.15

This fed five people though, two of which are Hungry Horaces who had seconds and thirds. I would say the amount I made would have been enough for 8-9 portions so still excellant value. yumyum

I do pick me times...I know, but just finished making a Ham, Pea and Sweetcorn soup- no recipe, just guesswork.

Half a packet of that dodgy Iceland 'saver'Ham, chopped into small cubes.90p
Half of tin of garden peas 17p
Half a tin of sweetcorn 17p
2 vegetable oxo cubes.
1L of water
Few spuds chopped very small (just to thicken the soup) left overs from the scouse bargain spuds
Pinch of black pepper
Pinch of garlic

Cooked low n slow for about two hours, that's tomorrows dinner (lunch) sorted!!! laugh
