I was working self employed for a year - I have my receipts and my expenses worked out. I haven't a clue how/what to file - self assessment? I'm not going to pretend I know what I'm talking about, I haven't the single idea.
I have enrolled, have a UTR, can log onto my account on the HM tax website, but I can't see where I'm meant to enter whatever.
I have a tax 'bill' through the post, which has my wrong wage and an incorrect tax amount.
I used an accountant last year, who possibly had less of a clue than me, and said my feb 2012 - feb 2013 bill could be filed in 2015.
I know this is wrong now, and I face a big four figure fine for being late.

I'm looking for a decent accountant who can sort this out now, as I'm starting to stress as it has to be in by the end of the month, I just want the money out and where it's supposed to be! argh

This is all I have - there's no option to enter.

There are plenty of high street accountants that will file and sort out your Self Assesment Return, you will need to tell them/provide evidence for how much you earned, how much it cost you to earn it, any interest on savings etc.

Your tax code will give you an indication of your tax free earnings threshold.

I would check that you have some contribution showing for PAYE as this can effect your state pension later on. Sure you can get advice on this from whoever does your return.

I pay £168 inc Vat for someone to do mine you can get it cheaper and you can certainly pay more, finding someone in a short time frame might be tricky as everyone waits till last minute for sorting out.

I've managed to get the online bit going (I had to register 'myself' first with Experian - there was no information on doing this anywhere). It says I have nothing to pay, but I want to pay 2012/2013 and get it out of the way.
May go into town and find an accountant that can do it.

Hi DavidB I can`t send you a PM cos you`re over your limit. I had to get an a accountant a few years ago cos I was in such a state. Her name is Sue. She is fantastic. She helped me with a day to spare. If you want her number send me a PM.

When I was self employed I found the HMRC helpline could answer all my questions. They won't volunteer information but will answer what you ask.

Sorry Giggler, you can email me at [email protected]
Thanks!
I've tried ringing the HMRC all day but they are always engaged Chris. Will keep it on speaker when I get home!
