I received a car parking penalty notice for overstaying by 11 minutes. I had paid for 2 hours parking and my little girl who is two decided she needed the toilet on our way to the car so without going into detail she was a little stuck and took longer than expected! As we were walking out the doors I saw the car park attendant writing a ticket and shouted to him that we were leaving now he couldn't stick the ticket on fast enough and even took the photo as I was getting into the car. My disgust was totally heightened when I saw the charge is for an astronomical £100 with an early bird discount of £50 if paid within 14 days. I've been told not to pay it as the charge isn't legal as you are entitled to 15 minutes grace? Is this right? Any help advice would be gratefully received.

I told the traffic warden I was potting training the little boy I was with. He wrote something down and told me to write to the address on the ticket and I got off with it. I wouldn`t ignore it. My sister told me to ignore one a few years ago in the Cherry Tree I did and they sent me more and more letters then they sent me the disc with photos. It cost me £140! I wouldn`t ignore it. Write.

The advice was to ignore these tickets, but since a couple of rule changes it is now advised to engage with communication with them. It is still just an invalid invoice as ever though, and does not need to be paid. For the letters that need to be sent see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4816822

I have taken on ANPR twice for myself and about 7 times advising others. Appeals via POPLA correctly worded ALWAYS win. I have had every single one of them cancelled. PM me if you want more info but as recommended by others pepipoo is an excellent source of information. I also post on there as blueskier. Check out my posts. Most importantly dont write to them. Wait for them to contact DVLA for keeper details. Never admit who was driving as they surely dont know. These are complete cretins.

Ignore them and do not respond at all. Use the paper to burn and keep warm or to wipe ones back side.

If it's non-council parking, just ignore them. I have had a few and nothing comes back, they give up in the end. Just tear up the letters and throw them in the grey bin. I pay for parking, but I'm not paying a fine for being over a couple of minutes.
