I remember the Music Hall, with the fish tank in the bar! Had my first pork scratchings there, took half an hour and was lucky to keep my teeth.

It was named after the music hall - mechanics institute - which stood roughly where the car park near Moodz bar is. Oscar Wilde gave a lecture there in 1883 and stayed overnight in a house by Tranmere Rovers.

Where the new Lawries centre is now more or less used to be a pub called the Bakers Arms opposite the Music Hall pub
Still trying to find a picture of it.

The Bakers Arms was where the Lauries is now, Music hall was where Asda is now, my Grandparents lived in Greenfield Street, next street along, I went To Cole Street school 1947-54 there was a George White in my class probably the one you mean, if I was going to my Grandparents house I used to walk that way with him as far as Exmouth Street, but I haven't seen him since 1954, somehow I don't think we'd recognise each other, mind you it's only 61 years ago, say it quick it doesn't sound much.

Forgot to say The Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club used to meet in the Music Hall on a Thursday night, The pub's managers were Charlie and Olive, lovely couple who then went on to manage the Rockville amongst others.
