Gunna take it apart and give it a clean, and test it.

Hopefully I wont need to replace it

Took it apart, and everything mechanical seemed fine, all working, nothing sticking.

Gave it a clean and fitted it back in and still nothing happened.

So I'm thinkin its an electrical fault with the solenoid.

Going to see if I can get it repaired or replaced

If your taking it for a swop / reconditioned one,
ask them to test yours first?

Then you know its not your wiring smile

I took the starter motor to the auto electrical place on green lane.

He tested it, it worked fine, took it apart cleaned the brushes, put it back togetehr and tested it again and all was spot on and he didnt even charge me for it - Would recommend him happy

So I put it back in, and checked the earthing to the engine.
Spotted one which looked like it was tightened but it was actually loose, only by a bit though.

So I got to this stage early Saturday afternoon:

As you can hear by the 2nd attempt of starting, the battery was dying, so I phoned Mark to help give it as jump start.

After spending about an hour pissing around, we couldnt smell any fuel, so we thought that the fuel pump was fooked. Then I realised, I took the fuse out to de-pressurise the fuel lines before taking it apart smack learn

Then we were getting somewhere...

Now that fuels getting to it, its desparately trying to start, but wont frown

It sounds like theres a knock from the engine sometimes and turning the crank by hand is easy in places, but becomes very difficult to turn in others.

So we came to the conclusion that the timing is out, but I'm pretty certain its spot on.

Anyone help me? as I'm at a loss now and have no idea what to do frown

Have you got RAC or AA Home Start by any chance? I had a tow start off them, they may be able to help?

Also, I dunno, but when I got the tow start, and I lifted the clutch it kinda pulled back on the van once or twice before it would start.

Id offer to do it in me new car (tis derv), but am not sure I like the idea of putting strain on it just yet lol, especially as the van the RAC used for me was a 2.5 tranny lol, if that gets strain id imagine a 2.0 would be hit a fair bit?

If ye still aint sorted nothin a couple of weeks id be happy to give it a go, but atm im just in two minds about doing it. Summit in me mind I could just imagine me nice new car ending up fooked, im weird like that, dunno why!

You know anyone with a work van who could do it? Nobody cares about screwing their work van lol.
