Sweetbreads Bandy, Yuk! Don't like any kind of offal. It made me think of all those foods my Nan used to eat. Tripe, pigs trotters, hodge, even used to make sheep heads soup in a big black pot. Stuffed hearts. Anything else I've forgotten ?
The old man was a slaughterman and we used to scoff all this stuff as kids. During rationing you ate whatever you could get hold of and there is actually nothing wrong with offal it's just a squeamish thing for some folk. Waste not want not and apart from that I find offal tasty. It's probably a generation thing.

Us wikiites are a right load of fungus faces arent we !!Love the Chestnut mushrooms at Aldi. They had the large £1.59 punnits of them yesterday, so I dug out a pack of all flat ones (tastier than the closed button ones) so half fried in garlic butter with eggs and veggie sausage, and the other half will be cut up , microwaved with a little mushroom ketchup black pepper and butter, then left in the fridge for up to a week till I want them - then thickened a little bit with corn flour, re-seasoned, and creme fresh stirred through served on buttered toast, Yum.
Same here with the offal Bandy, my dads mate worked in a slaughterhouse so we often had sweetbreads (agreed one of the tastiest things ever, floured and fried) tripe, ox tails, heart, kidney etc as well as some of the best stuff now n again like whole fillet of beef.

Haggis and neeps? Yup. I only seem to draw the line at sushi, I'll try anything else so that I then have an informed opinion. One of the good things about travelling the world.
