Can any of you lovely people tell me what Wood this is please? I bought it to paint it and then found a plaque inside saying "furniture by McIntosh" and after a Google I'm now wandering if I should paint it or not

Could it be a mahogany veneer, the front panels being flame mahogany?

It would seem not 'THE' Mackintosh.

Thanks for the link, it says it's rosewood vaneer, I knew McIntosh done either teak or rosewood, hmmm I still have to decide if I want to upcycle it 🙂

How much did you pay for it rocks?
They seem to be selling for a pretty penny so I wouldn't upcycle it, Drew Pritchard will chop your hands off if you do, haha!

I paid £20 for it, I know the ones with legs command a good price So I'm hoping my style will rise in value, either way I'm sure it's worth more than I paid for it, I'm in the middle of decorating and laying a new floor so I will wait to decide it's fate

£20 is a bargain. Whatever you do with the decorating rocks, don't paint that sideboard, haha!

The link I sent had the whole piece for £3 and yours is the bottom half, and it's not Mackintosh the collectible, but the manufacturer of multiple inexpensive units.

If those prices are right for a restored multi-production item then how come nobody has rushed off and bought the whole unit advertised for £3?

Maybe the ebay seller doesn't know it is a McIntosh or what they are worth.

Mines not a mackintosh it's a A H McIntosh and they still have an important place in British furniture design along side G-plan ( according to Google) so I still think my £20 was well spent 🙂

What a fine piece! All that lovely storage. It would be so very sad to paint over that beautiful veneer... if the top is a bit battered, maybe make or buy a long runner to co-ordinate with room paint colour/cushions/curtains etc to cover the top and hang down the sides too if needed.

Thanks Greenwood, it's in remarkable good condition really but that's a great idea about a top runner to co-ordinate the room 👍
