My wifes dad died about 4 weeks ago but before he died had befriended the feral kittens in his back garden. Only one survived so my wife has brought it home. She booked an appointment saying it was a feral kitten and took it to a vet on Bidston Moss and stumped up the £28 consultation fee. Vet questioned her did she really want to keep it and wouldn't even pick the kitten up to tell my wife if it was a boy or girl. The poor thing is very timid and makes a feeble attempt to hiss when approached. The vet said he wanted to be in the business till he was 60 and wasn't going to get scratched. Totally uncaring and wouldn't give eye drops till my wife asked to buy some. In contrast our local vet gently picked it up with gloves on, deflead it, did a couple of other things. Last couple of days a bit of progress as it lets itself be lifted and stroked. Fortunately have a cat mad sister who advised to start stroking it with a long feather to start with. Still spends most of the day hiding on a blanket in corner of room. Its used the litter tray a couple of times but also used the carpet. (things my wife does to get a new floor). Will put up some piccies of the poor mite

Quite right Dilly, it's just that animal neglect and abuse brings out the worst in me.

And me too, but I'm sure people will know just who we are talking about.

The only good thing is that my wife wrote a letter of complaint and got the consultation fee reimbursed.

I have had very bad and expensive dealings with them after my dog was taken to them from the boarding kennels when we were away on holiday. Would never go back to them.

The vet killer kitten! Took a while to catch him in mother in laws garden but 6 days on since "vet killer kitten" was taken in. Had a "bath" and cleaned up, now chases little toys, allows you to stroke its head then rolls over and purrs away contentedly. Still a bit skittish to loud noise or if someone walks in the room he runs back to his safe haven behind the plant pot. Not too happy getting drops in his eyes but they have cleared a bit. Just hoping he doesn't or hasn't lost sight in the bad eye. Watching his behaviour he may be blind in the one eye but not sure how you test it.

Nice Vet thinks it could be a disease. Having spent its life from birth in a garden and field it could be anything. Had several large tics on it that vet removed. Give the poor fella at least a chance. I don't really want a pet cat or dog or anything but the little things tug at your heart strings---as my wife well knows and gambled in bringing it home. I did vow to leave home if she ever got a dog or cat...still considering my options!!

I had to take my cat to this vet as my usual vet was closed and the cat came home with a nasty scratch on his eye. I got the very clear impression that they were trying to get as much money as possible, over and above what the cat needed. I wasn't working at the time but obviously I would have gotten him anything he needed but even when it was healed they kept saying that he needed another consultation. I'd never go back there again.
Good on you for giving the lovely kitten a home. He looks a cutie and I'm sure will reward you with lots of love.

Hi Fish, nice looking cat. The three remain feral cats on our site are around 10 years old now. I took over the job of feeding them about 2 years ago. Now when we arrive at work in the morning they run to the van whining to be fed smile . I made them a shelter where they go in bad weather. I always thought mine were the most spoilt ferals until I read you story smile .

A pretty little cat. Have you been to a different vets about his eye ? There maybe something if it is due to an infection, before the damage is irreversible.
So long since I went to any vets now, but I'm sure there are plenty of good ones even if fees are extortionate.
Cats are great friends, and will weave their way into your hardened heart, Fish. (Looks as if that's happened already) smile Well done.

Sorry, re-read your second or third post. You have already seen nice vet about his eye. Should keep up , I know, but Mo Farah has completely made me lose my balance. Has this little cat got a name yet ? laugh (Goldie)
