These are not the same bears that Venice posted about.
These are spectacled bears from the Andes. Cholita was rescued about 12 months ago or a bit more. She had lost all her hair because of stress and bad diet plus a lot more, so she had lost her spectacles as well. She has been taken back to a forest sanctuary in the Andes.
Now ADI have found another spectacled bear, that has also lost her hair though stress. Dominga.. DOMINGA'S TRAVEL CRATE GETS TESTED ON HUMANS! ADI's South America General Manager Alexis inside spectacled bear Dominga's travel crate, ensuring all surfaces are smooth and there is nothing to harm our precious cargo. As soon as the crate is complete it will be taken to Dominga's zoo enclosure to familiarise her with it and help reduce any stress on the journey. Dominga is currently alone in a zoo high in the Andes mountains in Peru. An ADI veterinary team will do a full battery of tests on the almost completely bald spectacled bear and trim her overgrown claws at the start of a journey that will take her over the Andes and along the Madre de Dios River to her new home in the forest. ADI'S TARGET IS TO HAVE LONELY DOMINGA ARRIVE IN HER NEW HOME NEXT TO CHOLITA ON VALENTINE'S DAY
Cholita is the top bear. She has her skin moisturised regularly and she loves grapes. I think she will love Dominga too.

Spectacled bear Dominga has spent years alone in a mountain zoo in Peru. The ADI mission is underway to take her back to the forest where she will be neighbours with bears of her own kind. Our advance team is already with Dominga, completing preparations and the permits for the move. ADI President Jan Creamer and the veterinary team arrived in Cusco today and will make the 5 hour journey to Abancay tomorrow morning. We will post updates whenever possible, including going live on Facebook (remember we are working in the Andes mountains – phone signals can be difficult). SHARE & INVITE your friends to LIKE Animal Defenders International on Facebook as Dominga goes home to join Cholita, Lucho and Sabina in the forest!

If anyone should be waiting for any news,, it's not coming through.
They've been travelling for 3 days, the last lap being down the river in the Amazon to the Ecological Reserve, which should have been today but now news so far. However, they where held up on the first day due to the lorry carrying Dominga breaking down in the mountains. It took 3 hours for another to reach them. They decided to travel into the night, and then took four hours sleep after rotating drivers. Setting off at early morning they travelled all day yesterday in dreadful weather, and this morning we got a snippet of video, it was pouring with rain, saying they were to reach the reserve this afternoon. So far no news ! This is probably due to reception, as it has been bad from the beginning apparently. Dominga was travelling well after having her skin creamed and nails clipped and being fed on lots of fruit and loads grapes which just like Cholita, she loves.

Second Reading of Private Members Bill on Friday 24th February against Animal Circuses in the UK. Last time only 3 MPs' knocked it back. This Bill must be passed. Please sign if you are concerned about animal circuses in this country. It could be another few years before it can happen again.
Please also sign the one for Wales. Anyone can sign no matter where you live. If Wales are not included it means the circuses can hide out in Wales without DEFRA doing inspections. DEFRA only inspect in England.

I'm still watching and waiting. My goodness, it's a long old wait !
For those who might be interested, the Wild Animal Circuses Prohibition Bill, has been blocked AGAIN, by the same MP as the last 2 occasions, and overall at least 9 times Mr Christopher Chope. Two others Andrew Rosindell MP and Philip Davies MP, have also blocked Bills.
Very sad, particularly as Thomas Chipperfield also announced today that their oldest tiger had just died. Coincidence or what ? She had spent every day for 20yrs in a cage.
Thanks to any who singed petitions or wrote to MP's but it's another sad day.

Flippin swine that Chope. I got a letter back last time I wrote to him on the issue , defending the circus people up to the hilt.
April the giraffe STILL not given birth! I had a look at the facebook page as well as u tube, and you should see the morons on the chat there, its just unbelievable , its trolled up to the eyeballs. Surprised the zoo dont just disconnect the chat filth permanently. Apparently they disconnected it for a few hours recently because there were allegedly complaints from animal rights people that showing the birth was going to be, wait for it, too sexually explicit!!!! Mind you , I dont believe that , I think its just pro zoo trolls trying to give AR's a bad name.
I hope they do lose their licence and it just shows how useless local authority inspections are . Of course, the zoo would be bringing in much needed revenue to the area, wouldn't it ?

Poor old April the giraffe STILL not given birth yet. Surely it must be soon now unless the park has been seriously capitalizing on the imminency if it.
There seems to be numerous unnecessary problems there.

Questions must surely arise on who has issued the licences in the last 4 yrs, who qualified has inspected the zoo etc. They should all be questioned. Councillors alone, are not so far as I'm aware, very well educated in so many different species of wildlife including their needs, dietary demands , habitat and exercise levels etc.

Share some great news: TODAY THE LONELINESS ENDED FOR ZUMBA! One of the the most crushing things for captive animals must be the desperate loneliness of isolation from their own kind. Nine days ago, Zumba, the spider monkey was chained alone in a circus in Peru. But later that day, Animal Defenders International raided the circus with wildlife officials from SERFOR (ATFFS Lima) and the Ecological Police and today we took him home to the forest. TODAY ZUMBA MET HIS OWN KIND AGAIN! Zumba is now in the ADI facilities at Pilpintuwasi near Iquitos. He will be monitored in an enclosure within the main spider monkey habitat before a full re-introduction, but he is already able to make contact with the six other spider monkeys – all rescued from circuses, restaurants and the pet trade by ADI. Pepe, head of the family, was first to check out Zumba who looked suitably submissive and soon afterwards the other spider monkeys were swinging down to check out and groom their new family member. What will be going through Zumba's mind as he swings about his new enclosure and as he goes to sleep tonight surrounded by the sound of the forest and the calls of other monkeys? Thank you to everyone who helped this important rescue that confirmed there will be zero tolerance for any circuses in Peru attempting to use wild animals following ADI's enforcement of the ban.
Precious cargo. An unconscious Zumba is carefully loaded into his travel crate for his journey home. Zumba started his journey back to the Amazon forest

Lovely to see the rescued elephant granny. Phew, wouldnt like to cross an elephant when its annoyed though . Made that tuk tuk look like it was paper mache - and as for the people they had a go at - truly awful . Wonder if its a case of previous cruelty and then they suddenly 'flip' -go insane when they cant take any more.
If you saw 'For the Love of Animals' with Paul O'Grady in India, Wildlife SOS where Raju now lives, was one of the rescue centres he visited and helped to give Mohan some special care. Another rescued elephant that had been a working elephant for 50yrs used, abused and starved.
This below is another elephant ,70yrs old, partially blind, and rescued just about a month ago on 17th June this year. Gajraj, a temple elephant that has had a grim life. He was taken 1500km to the rescue centre, over 5 days of travelling with long stops when too hot. What I found amazing was his natural instinct after all those years, to give himself his first ever dust bath on the second day after his arrival. We have seen him in the pool but since then we have not been given much in the way of updates, apart from playing with one of his enrichment toys. He is still being treated and brought back to health in the centre ,so we await news on Gajraj in the not too distant future. It takes a lot of time and trust on the part of the elephant, only when the time is right will he be introduced to any friends. That bell should be off by now, but as it had been on all his life they said it was something they would do in time as psychologically it can be harmful to remove it too soon.

Wow didn't like watching that compilation of the elephants on the rampage, felt so sorry for them and especially that poor elephant that was standing still when the other attacked him. Poor elephant must have just had enough. Poor thing..
well they say they rescued it and show a live elephant on land....
Wow...that was a challenge . I wonder if it was the same elephant too ? The other was obviously a wild one, this was tied up ! Maybe recuperating.

Magic World, Aleppo. 13 animals rescued by Four Paws from this bombed zoo where over 130 animals died, and those remaining were cared for in very difficult circumstances by Omir and his brother. Omir says' Four Paws had said they would take him with them, so he could be with his animals, but they did not. He still does not understand why not. He now has no job and nothing left.
Another tragedy of this war !!

This is some of Omir's story.
My name is Omir I was born in 1979 in Aleppo, Syria. I had illustrated a factor in the zoo called (Magic World) a place far from the center of Aleppo. Within seventeen years I was raising and serving animals Then the war broke out in 2011. The zoo owner left the country to escape to America. I could not leave the animals without food or water. I am a normal worker and my brother helps me during this period. I borrowed money to feed the animals and bring the chickens to feed the animals. Every time I lose a lot of animals. Tiger died, the bear and two lion died as for all snakes died. Six years passed a difficult hit the zoo bombed two cars and destroyed some buildings. In addition, my brother Nasser al-Din, Who went by car to fetch food for animals, but, lost his way in an air raid. Leave behind a wife and child. Notice that I pay Salaries to the worker who works in the zoo. I live very hard days. But myself do not allow me to leave these animals to hunger So, I appeal to you to save my life with animals
I have sacrificed my family and my children can not go to school

Where did you find Omirs story granny? Was it on FB or something . Theres no second name and no contact details.Im wondering if this is just old plea/post that has been shared , long after the event was 'live' One article I read, does say that locals had been feeding the animals in the time before Paws could execute the rescue.
Hi Venice. I deleted his full name. He has got videos on FB and yes he has posted a bit of his story. I am in touch with him, but it's very hard sometimes to understand the proper translation. Paws took a long time to rescue the animals and he had been asking them and others for help for a long time before. I don't think he understands that to actually get animals out of a country involves so much time due to legal papers etc.,. and expense. I have also tried to explain how Paws would not have been able to transfer him from Turkey to Jordan (where the animals are now) as they would not be likely to pay for his transport. Not sure if he understands that either. Yes, it is a plea Omir is making, and is wanting recognition, or something that none of us completely understand, but he is not wanting money. I just think he's completely bereft of everything. Dr Khalil did give them recognition as you see in the video, but not by name. Too dangerous to do that, even now . It was a really difficult and dangerous journey they took to rescue the animals as posted on another video of Dr Khalil ."Bad men, very bad men" he stated.

Wow, didnt have sound the whole time , so did it say if that was that a planned meeting or unexpected? Id have been expecting my head to be bitten any minute !
I love Gorilla's, they so like us. Loved the way the Silverback watched over his family just like a dad does. That experience for that guy must have been awesome and he did well to keep as still as he did, not sure I could have. Great to watch thanks Granny..
No Venice, not planned or staged in any way. He does explain at the beginning that they were staying at a reservation type place, under canvas and just a few times a year the wild Gorillas find their way into the camp part.
Primates are the only species that share the same blood groups as ourselves. We can see the similarities'
Cools, It was the big chap, daddy, that amazed me. He moved and they all followed him. Poking his kid in the back to move it out of the way, and his face with the way he looked at the guy when he was about to move off, just a smidgen of " you are of no concern, mate". Made me laugh.
Venice.... Wirral Donkeys, Gills Lane, are thinking of having an event on the 8th October. They had put it in their diary, but I've not heard anything since.

. PLEASE TAKE ACTION TODAY AND URGE WALES TO BAN WILD ANIMAL CIRCUS ACTS! The Welsh Government is currently consulting on mobile animal exhibits and wants to know whether a ban on wild animals in circuses should be considered. The answer is of course YES! Please respond to Question 8 of the consultation using our suggested wording no later than Wednesday 8th October. This could very well decide the fate of a circus ban in Wales so PLEASE TAKE ACTION - it will take just a few moments of your time.
You only have to copy and paste the following answer to Q8. As per instructions, then give your name. ADI will complete the remainder of the form as a collective petition. Thank you.
Yes, a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses should be introduced at the earliest opportunity. Evidence and studies over the past twenty years makes it clear that, even with the best will in the world, travelling circuses simply cannot provide wild animals with the environment they need to maintain health and welfare, and therefore must be banned. Travelling circuses are constantly on the move and, by necessity, animal accommodation must be small, lightweight, collapsible and easy to transport. For the animals, this means long periods with restricted space to move around and barren environments with nothing to interest or engage the animals. Restricted from performing their natural behaviours, animals suffer physical and social deprivation; stress which can result in abnormal, stereotypic behaviours; as well as physical abuse during training and handling. Captivity does not alter their wild nature, causing animals to be unpredictable and dangerous, compromising public safety. A system of licensing and registration cannot protect wild animals from the inherent suffering they endure in the circus and therefore only a ban can safeguard their welfare.

Two bears rescued from outside restaurants in Armenia 2 days ago (there are dozens more, but this is a start)
They have been caged for years as a tourist attraction, fed on scraps and stagnant water, in a vulnerable position when the river floods. In cages without doors, welded together with no access .....
Brown bears Dasha the male, and Misha the female, are now at a sanctuary to be assessed . If they are healthy and recover from their ordeal well, they could eventually be released back into the wild again.
Thought you might like some pics.

Firstly, after the publics objections were directly emailed to Las Vegas , 2 weeks ago, about there re-introduction of wild animal acts on the strip.
Just released
Animal Defenders International
VICTORY. YOU DID IT! Today the Las Vegas Review Journal announced that the “wild” has been taken out of “Dirk Arthur’s Wild Magic” at Westgate Las Vegas. Arthur had initially announced he would use a bobcat and a snow leopard in the production, which opens on Nov. 15. Instead, the hotel issued a statement yesterday that Arthur was ditching the cats and working sleight-of-hand and illusions with his stage assistants. An ADI investigation had previously exposed the living and performing conditions of Dirk Arthur's big cats and emails poured into the Westgate from ADI supporters urging them to drop the animal acts. THANK YOU. We hope that the duck named Afflack is also being dropped from the show.
The Review Journal says today, quoting the Westgate: “"The show is formatted to fit in an intimate setting, where the audience can enjoy the magic up close and personal. Due to space limitations in the Cabaret, this version of the show does not feature cats,” the statement read. Why anyone felt an exotic-cat show would work at Westgate Cabaret in the first place is anyone’s guess, but it ain’t happening. Not mentioned, of course, is the blowback Arthur consistently receives from animal rights groups — which were already zeroing in on his show at Westgate. At least one, Animal Defenders International (ADI), had already started an e-mail campaign condemning Arthur for his use of exotic animals.”

FINALLY! After months of negotiations, we have come to an agreement with the authorities of Ninh Binh province. It is certain, that we’ll soon be able to rescue former bile bear Hai Chan and two of her friends from their cages and transfer them to our newly built BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh. Hai Chan has lived on a bile bear farm for more than 10 years now. These 10 long years of suffering can end now – thanks to your help. Please support our mission to rescue Hai Chan and her two friends Thai Van and Thai Giang: http://bit.ly/save-hai-chan

Today at this very moment Four Paws are rescuing 3 more bile bears from slavery in Vietnam. Here is their report to now.
BEAR RESCUE IN VIETNAM ⚠ The first two former bile bears - Thai Van and Thai Giang - are free. We just rescued them from their tiny cages and undertook a veterinary check. Their health condition is worse than expected and more examinations will be necessary in the future. Thankyfully, everything went accordingly and our team is already on their way to reacue yet anothet bear from her cage - Hai Chan! Keep your fingers crossed for her! Rescued, at long last : Dear little Hai Chan. Her front feet had been cut off for medicines.
BEAR RESCUE IN VIETNAM ⚠ We successfully put Hai Chan into anesthesia and undertook a thorough medical check on her. During the ultrasonic we noticed new scares on her gallbladder - a certain evidence that her bile was extracted just shortly. It is so sad to imagine what immense suffering Hai Chan has been gone through over the last decade. It is unbelievable and hard to even bear for us.
Please help Hai Chan and bears like her: bit.ly/save-hai-chan

BEAR RESCUE IN VIETNAM ⚠ Arrival at our BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh. heart emoticon<3 We are more than relieved. All bears have finally arrived at our newly built BEAR SANCTUARY. For the first night, they will stay in their transport crates. Their transport boxes were mulched so all three of them can enjoy a first comfortable night at their new forever home. It is so sad to see that none of the bears has ever seen straw before...
Tomorrow, we will release all of them in our quarantine area, where Hai Chan, Thai Van and Thai Giang will stay for the next couple of weeks until they are fit enough to be released into their permanent outdoor enclosures.

So horrible to think of all the ones left behind. If her paws havebeen cut off, wont the poor thing get very painful stumps when she starts getting friction on them, walking about outside? How disgustingly cruel the perpetraters were.
Returning to the top of this page , you see the story of three Bile Farm Bears.
Hai Chan, Thai Van and Thai Giang and how they were found and how they were rescued.
You may like to see the latest. It is thought that Hai Chan will be able to manage successfully her life with the disability of not having her paws.
Here she is now :
Hai Chan, Thai Van & Thai Giang have been transferred to their new binnenverblijf! They are visibly refurbished and will soon have access to their country house.

This is the fourth zoo I know of to have been abandoned, with animals starving to death. There were the other 3 in Gaza, Iraq and Syria, just recently.
It's a pitiful world we live in.
They do have a lot of petitioners , so maybe something will be resolved. The trouble is, if they can't feed them, what can they do with them. Unable to release them, it must be a case of waiting for all the legalities to be overcome before any move can be put in place. A world ban on zoos might be the answer ?

You can catch the updates as it happens on 6 rescued bile farm bears that are now in the process of being transported 1,200 kms., to their rescue centre.
They left yesterday (Friday) early morning and stopped overnight . They are heading for their next stop over tonight. The journey will take 4 days and they are worried about a couple of the bears. One being blind(they think) and another being very nervous. Who wouldn't be after 10 years in a cage small enough not to be able to stretch out in. Surrounded by banana leaves and not being able to eat them ,and bile extracted on a daily basis in a painful process ? BUT, they are away from that now, and looking forward to their best Christmas ever.

Hai Chan, Thai Van and Thai Giang have gone outside for the first time. The first two pics are of Hai Chan. She's managing without her two front paws. Maybe she's suddenly aware that there's a blue sky above us.
It's a 'feel good' factor Happy Christmas to them.
Four Paws International. UPDATE ON HAI CHAN AND HER FRIENDS!
We are beyond happy to announce that today the three former "bile bears" Hai Chan, Thai Van and Thai Giang were successfully released into their large outdoor enclosures. After several weeks in quarantine and within temporary indoor enclosures, it was wonderful to watch them walk into a natural and species-appropriate enclosure for the very first time in their lives.
Until now, they have never experienced trees, soil, grass or water in a pond, as their “home” consisted of iron bars and concrete floor for so many years.
At the moment, all three bears are only brave enough to stay outside for very short periods of time. But we are confident that Hai Chan, Thai Van and Thai Giang will all soon feel ready to explore and appreciate their species-appropriate home.

It has been on the agenda in England for a number of years. Cameron was the first to have it in his manifesto. Unfortunately, it has been blocked on various occasions by only 3 MP's. Then it has to wait again until there is time to debate again. It's a farce ! The worst offender is Christopher Chope.. the man who wants to re-introduce the death penalty. Says a lot

Back again, after a long silence. That does not mean things have not been happening ,world wide. However, today I received my fix of the month.
5 Moon Bears were successfully rescued from a Bear Bile farm in Vietnam, and after 4 days of travelling they reached their new home this morning for a quarantine period and medical treatment. They will then be able to go outside and forage and play after 21 years in cages without any stimulation or decent food. Mainly gruel was fed to them. They travelled well and looked relaxed on their arrival.

Couldn't watch the video for more than a few seconds Granny, just awful what they do .. same with the Rhino and tigers and other animals , stupidly believing that certain parts are healing and gives you powers ect, what Rubbish!! Whole animal slaughtered for nothing... Nice to see them once they rescued . That's why I like watching Brooke's Falls bears, they can fight and have terrible injuries but on the whole they well fed , safe and seem happy living as they should in their national Park. As long as they don't stray they cant be hunted within Katmai.

President Widodo shut down this zoo, Venice.. Power of the people and the internet.
Yet again the power of the internet to perpetuate old stories and myths.
Bandung zoo was temporarily closed in 2016 to investigate the death of an elephant and other matters. From May 2016 the owners have made and continue to make phenomenal changes to the zoo, from Mar 2017 it was with with assistance of Cee4life and other organisations. The program is a full upgrade to at least contemporary standards for every facility at the zoo.
I am pretty sure President Widodo has not closed the zoo at this stage in it progress.

Well it was the petitions that brought the attention in the first place. Strange that CEE4Life constantly say that the bears were not starving, it was false information banded around the world. BUT, after inspections they have built a new enclosure for the bears and helped with the elephants etc . A privately owned zoo that had no doubt found itself in a bad place due to various problems which could have gone unnoticed without the public rasing the flag in the first place. . The zoo itself having been inspected, re-vamped and is to be re-branded.... so I read, but of course that last bit could be bunkum ! The last paragraphs of their report says it all really . http://www.cee4life.org/current-projects/
A video that was released by an Indonesian group on 16th May 2016, which was said to show “starving†bears, has recently resurfaced and become a viral video causing outrage across the world with animal lovers.
Cee4life was contacted by numerous concerned members of the public and asked to assist.
After investigating these “starvation†claims, Cee4life has found that these claims are false.
After communicating with Indonesian authorities, we can confirm that the video is old and from May 2016. The identity of who re-uploaded the video is unknown at this time.
The situation is as follows:
* In mid 2015, the only Veterinarian that Bandung Zoo had, resigned due to lack of funds. The owner and Chairman of Bandung Zoo carried on the best he could, however he became very ill by early 2016.
* The Minister of Environment and Forestry contacted the Perhimpunan Kebun Bintatang Se- Indonesia or PKBSI, (English translation – Indonesian zoos and Aquariums Association) asking if they could aid Bandung Zoo. PKBSI accepted and has been helping the animals of Bandung Zoo since May 2016.
* PKBSI has sent a team of Veterinarians from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine IPB , the Veterinary Association of Indonesia and a Veterinarian from Taman Safari Indonesia, in addition to curators and head keepers from Taman Safari Indonesia who brought medicine to help the animals of Bandung zoo.
* The Taman Safari Veterinarians rotate through Bandung Zoo 3 days per week until Bandung Zoo employs a Veterinarian of their own.
“Kardit†the Sunbear
There are 11 Sunbears in Bandung Zoo, all have had Veterinary checks and all are in good health. In the original video, a specific sun-bear was identified who looked thinner than the others. This began the “starvation†commentary.
The sun-bear in question is named “Kardit†and he is 23 years old. Kardit is nearly at the full lifespan age of a sun-bear (25 – 30 years) and has a normal physical condition of a bear this age. Kardit eats very well and is not starving. None of the bears or other animals are starving at this time.
The begging that is seen in the video is caused by tourists who have fed the bears. Tourists are not supposed to feed the bears, however many have and the bears have learned to reach out for food when tourists come by. This is a human caused problem that is prevalent in many zoo across SE Asia.
In conclusion, Bandung Zoo was in trouble, but since May 2016 it has been receiving aid from the Indonesian Zoo’s and Aquariums. While the enclosures are not ideal, the animals are being fed and have received Veterinary aid since May 2016. Cee4life will endeavor to monitor the progress of the animals over the coming months to reassure the public that the animals are in good health. It was also found that even if the authorities wish to relocate the animals, there is simply no facility or sanctuary to house these animals at this time.
If there is a need to help out with aid, we will inform the public on this.
There are many photographs and film footage that circulates the internet. It can be very upsetting, however it may not be what it presents as. We highly advise that if you see this type of video please contact Cee4life or any other organisation or authority. Cee4life will always endeavor to investigate the facts.

At least some of that is from the Jan 2017 update, things have moved on considerably since then.
I didn't say they hadn't.
What I did point out from the above report , was that the zoo was failing and that had it not been for the public outcry and petition ,rightly or 'wrongly' as it would appear to be, then nobody would have been any the wiser and Cee4Life nor anyone else would have been called in, or done inspections. The fact that the vet had left and the owner was ill around the same period time, does raise suspicions that not everything was OK. A zoo without a vet has to be something of serious proportions.
In addition, there are a lot of accusations being raised about Cee4Life ,Briony Wolf and Sybelle Foxcroft, as you will see from the petition that was raised below from Nov 2017. which also points out that the bear pen still hadn't been completed.
" d) According to Wild Welfare’s report, during their visit in February 2017, the bears were locked away in their dens because of “renovationsâ€. And then, when my team visited in June 2017, the bears were locked away again because of “renovationsâ€. So here we are, 10 months after the first apparent “renovation†and six months after the second apparent “renovation†and yet the enclosure is still NOT RENOVATED."

I haven't seen any evidence that the public outcry was the trigger. The trigger was the inspection after the death of an elephant, they wanted to close the zoo down but there would have been no way of doing this without euthanising many of the animals so the owner was given the option of improving standards.
The owner should no longer be pilloried as he is making huge progress.

The video was originally posted in 2016. This taken from their report on the link above.
On the 23rd January 2017, Cee4life were notified numerous times of “starving sun-bears†in Bandung Zoological Gardens and we were urged to help. We too saw the video and were concerned about Kardit the sun bear. We contacted the Indonesian Zoos and Aquariums on the 23rd January 2017 and received a thorough report by 25th January 20.
If we look at the feedback on trip advisor, some this year, that's more points of view.

Aurora was the latest little bear rescued, just before Christmas.
Message from Animals Asia :
Thanks to people around the world, seven moon bears and a sun bear were rescued from a collective 111 years of cruelty in 2018.
Mai, Mekong, Star, LeBon and Kim were rescued from the far south of Vietnam, while Sky was broken out of a cage in the mountainous far north.
Precious was rescued and given her first ever name by the very people who funded her rescue and beautiful sun bear Aurora shone brightly on her incredible 1,500km journey through floods to sanctuary.
All eight bears have begun their rehabilitation with Mai, Mekong and . Star making their first ever friendships last month.
In 2019 you will see these eight individuals go from strength to strength as they re-learn how to be bears, become healthy, forge relationships and go out to forage and play in the sanctuary's large enclosures.
Thank you for getting them this far. Without you they would still be in those tiny, barren cages, peaking out at a cruel world through the bars. Instead, they are well on their way to beautiful new lives.

This man is amazing ! He is the one who took the teams into Libya, Mosul in Iraq ,Gaza , and Aleppo, Syria to rescue the zoo animals from starvation and the war zones. The amount of work involved between all the different authorities and groups of rebels, ISIS and other factions, was immense and very scary for them . Their (4paws) latest big rescue( about 2 months ago) of 11 animals was from a zoo in Albania , but I'm not sure if he was on that mission. I watched this rescue (most of it) as they quite often video live rescues. Fortunately they just managed to complete in a full day, before dark.

Syrian Rescue (one of the tigers died last month in the Netherlands, the other is still there. One of the hyenas died a few months after rescue, and one of the lions has gone to Lions Rock in S.Africa. The bears are ok, and another lioness but no updates on any of the others, and they are still in Jordan.

Another rescue of Luna. A little elephant that has suffered so much for so long in India. So poorly and weak, she was unable to stand up . Wildlife SOS managed to secure her rescue and transported her over the last couple of days. She arrived in the hospital about 3.30am this morning.
Let's hope little Luna makes a full recovery soon.

Luna had her first shower today. We hope she loves them because she will get one everyday now! After the night's long and tough journey, our keepers gave Luna a refreshing bath. This not only helped her ease up a little, but it also gave our team a chance to clear off the folds of her skin of infectious dirt before we start the treatment of her wounds.

I think they may be referring to the 'Field of Dreams' where the elephants go and wander , doing what elephants do best. I love the name .
Wildlife SOS
Update on #Luna: After the treatment sessions today, Luna needed a break. So, she decided to walk towards the field and started playing with dust and leaves. In no time, she was totally covered in mud and continued playing for hours. We saw her so happy for the first time and to us, it looked like she is celebrating her freedom .

Since this last post, Luna has had various treatments, and is still trying to overcome 50yrs of slavery.
Various posts from.. Wildlife SOS
Luna's body was not only covered in scars from the use of bull-hook much too frequently, it was also marked by prominent wounds that were still oozing with pus. Our veterinarians are now applying a combination of antiseptic and antibiotic ointment to soothe her wounds and avoid further infection.
As a result of lack of proper nutrition and care since Luna was a calf, she did not receive the critical care that she needed. This led to the development of a deformity in her hind legs which curve inwards and are extremely weak. There are several skin lesions on her body due to friction with the ground as she is often unable to get up for long periods. She also has an ulcer on the right hip side which is causing her pain. Our vets are observing her day and night and are chalking out a detailed medical routine for her
Recently, there has been a sudden drop in mercury due to which the mornings have become colder and foggier. The afternoons are warm and cosy. We are trying to keep her warm and comfortable as cold can aggravate pain in her joints. A bonfire is also lit throughout the night at a safe distance from her enclosure to keep her snug.
There are many reasons why Luna has been struggling to stand. Here is photo showing one of the issues. You can see the bottom of one of her feet. The veterinarian is removing pebbles and other foreign objects that have been embedded in her foot. Who knows how long she has had these in there. It's hard to imagine the pain it has caused her. There is more that still needs to come out.

Torn from his mother by traffickers and rescued as a traumatised cub in a remote district of Vietnam by Animals Asia – sun bear Goldie is finally learning how to play and explore. Goldie was just six months old when he was rescued in April this year. He recently completed a quarantine period at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre and is now growing in confidence as he adjusts to his new-found freedom.

After 15 yrs in a cage and 2 months after rescue, little Aurora has stepped out into her new world for the first time.
Wonderful news, obviously Aurora is making up for lost time.
Update : There is no stopping Aurora now!
After 15 years of the most cruel captivity, Aurora was rescued in December last year.
She stepped out on grass a few weeks ago for the first time since she was a cub, and now she's made her first ever friends.
This brave, calm, sweet bear is now living with the Miomojo bears: Layla, Sassy, Annemarie, Goldie and Murphy. And early signs are the group are getting along really well! What a superstar Aurora is. Her spirit is shining so brightly.

Who remembers Sky.. 14 ys in solitary confinement from being a cub ? Rescued in Sept 2017 ..
It was a long road for Sky to adapt and she struggled, but she was given all the time she needed. Today she has found her courage and made friends with Le BON.. ( another rescued bear last August, and sponsored by Simon Le Bon ) .
Happy Sunday

Our team of vets and care givers have been with Luna all night long. She has been receiving intravenous fluid therapy since last night. The intravenous fluids administered to her via drip is a carefully calibrated mixture of electrolytes and B-complex solution. We are pleased to report that Luna has slowly started to eat. She’s just now snacking on some juicy cucumbers and watermelon. We are making sure she stays well hydrated and have kept large buckets full of fresh cool water right next to her that she has been drinking intermittently. Luna has been given painkillers to help her deal with the pain in her hind leg. She is too weak to get up but we are trying our level best to help her regain strength. Please send her prayers and keep her in your thoughts. We will keep you posted.

.....and while we wait for some good news about Luna, there is also a Four Paws Rescue happening right now , in Gaza. Animals from Rafa Zoo, approx. 40 of them, so a massive task. Good Luck to Four Paws.
Whilst we wait, here is a jolly little video to brighten our spirits. Made for International Happiness Day this week, and it makes me joyful hope it does for you too.

This morning Wildlife SOS gave an update on little Luna. I shall not copy it here as it had me in floods of tears. She no longer has any strength in her back legs. They said she was peaceful and not in pain, but Luna may not be with them for much longer.
I shall leave that as my final update on her .

That's very sad Granny poor elephant. It's so upsetting when you get to know these animals and what they've been through. Me I tend to shy away from stuff like this as I know it would put me on a downer especially the cruelty. Stupid idiots who believe milking the poor bears etc is powerful medicine and same with elephants tusks and rhinos being wiped out just for these stupid beliefs. Makes me so angry!!! The bear video was lovely they look so happy so it's a good job there is people and organisations helping these poor animals. I enjoy watching the Katmai bears as at least they live how they should with nobody out to kill them as long as they stay in the reserve. There is sadness with them but it's nature and fights between themselves but on the whole they seem happy and well fed there.
Not having dropped in on the Katmai bears for quite a long time now, I'm probably missing quite a lot at the moment . Coming out of hibernation for another feast at some point, exactly how they should be allowed to live their lives. Has Otis appeared again yet ? I'm glad you are still enjoying them and you probably know all their names by now. Do you take part in the discussions and chat ?

The other thing that's a tragedy atm, is the Four Paws rescue of 40 zoo animals from Rafah Zoo ,Gaza. The team was all set to go in on Sunday, but due to the now intensifying military actions of Israel (again) it's too dangerous for them. At least one explosion went off in Rafah last night, I so hope it wasn't close to the animals. They are in bad enough shape as it is.

The bears are not about yet , got to wait awhile longer. It will be interesting to see who comes back and who has cubs , they are so cute .. we all hope Otis comes back this year but he is getting old and you could definitely see a slowness in him last year. I really enjoy watching them and reading chat I sometimes join in but not a lot. They all know the bears so well so it's great that you find out exactly who you are watching. Some of them are real characters make you laugh but then you get the grumps who want to be top bear and fight. They all have nicknames given by the chatters but the rangers give them numbers. As I say it's nice to see them and quite a privilege to watch them thanks to Explore.
I doubt I would ever remember all the names of the those bears, Cools.
Who remembers the rescue of 33 lions from Columbia and Peru a few years ago. They went to Emoya BIg Cat Sanctuary in Africa. Since then, due to various problems, ADI have found their own sanctuary in Africa and have transferred the lions to their own sanctuary in the last few weeks.
OJ and Iron were just two of those lions rescued.
The first picture was at the time of rescue and the second one is them today. What a transformation !

And now we have Kaavan. The latest maajor rescue of a 10.5 ft elephant. Known as the lonliest elephant in the world . Re-homed from the hell hole of a zoo in Pakistan to Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary.
Fantastic place, and Kaavan is making himself feel very much at home. He's already acheived in breaking the rope that his tyre was hanging with, (been replaced) knocked a small tree down (unintentionally and i'f you've never seen a tree, wht would you do with it) and he's flirting with the girls next door. There is evidence that he is lying down to sleep at night against his sand bank and he's loving to take dust baths and mud baths. How's that for just one week out of solitary ? I'd say not bad at all . They are in the process of making n even bigger enclosure and eventually he will be allowed into the forest with the other elephants . He needs some medical attention before all that though.
His eyes are like babies eyes, all innocent and loving.
This was just after one day in the sanctuary after a long tiring journey.
Before his rescue.
