Alarms are more trouble than they are worth. Hassle to set and reset. They go off with wind, electrical noise on the mains, thunderstorms, even pets.
Easy to subvert by any burglar worth the name, and an advertisement that you have something worth stealing, or at least an exaggerated regard for the value of your property. Sometimes kids set them off for fun.
