Hi all! I've just been walking by Prenton Brook in Barnston Dale & it was beautiful. I followed what I thought was a path from Holmwood Drive to Lower Heath Wood. Now I've got back & checked Open Street Map I don't think there is a public path there, I think it may be a boundary line? It's criminal that it's not supposed to be for the public as it's so beautiful and I love to walk by a river/brook. Does anybody know who actually owns that land/wood? Also, as I was walking, I passed two poles with fancy (ish) tops that looked quite old (pictures attached). Does anyone know what they are? One was as you first reached the brook and the second was a little further on. Thanks.
Thanks, it did sound hollow when I tapped it but obviously I couldn't get high enough to see if the top was open or had holes in it. What would it be a vent for in the middle of the woods by a brook?
Brooks tend to flow along the lowest points in the landscape, so it makes sense to bury a sewer adjacent to it. It probably takes sewage from the houses both sides of the valley in the area.
Near Murrayfield Hospital one can see a concrete structure half hidden by the trees on google earth which may be a treatment works or a pumping station It looks more like a pumping station or maybe a cistern to regulate the flow during peak rain. Presumably the sewer follows the brook and goes into the Great Sewer in Birkenhead along the docks to the Shore road station.
