For all you turbo charged nutters out there I have found some garages that still sell leaded petrol This stuff has an octane rating of 102(ish) RON - optimax is 98 and may allow you to advance the timing a degree or 2 for a few more Geegees However, its not gonna be cheap - expect to pay more than optimax for it, and its not local either. Nearest places are Wrexham and Hawarden Click here to download to list of UK sellers in .pdf format. May take a trip up to the Hawarden one at some point, and fill a few drums

You shouldnt need octane booster with it Most octane boosters raise the RON level by a couple of points, this would make optimax up to 100RON, this stuff is 102 to start with Even without timing adjustments, its a much "safer" fuel, and less prone to det - especially with summer, and warmer intake temps

would it not be possible to increase the RON to about 104 then? is this just for turbo'd cars or will it work on n/a petrol cars?

You could go up to 104 RON if you really really felt the need Yup, would work on N/A cars as well. Going from Optimax to this stuff would prolly give the same increase as normal UL to Optimax Though this stuff actually contains lead to ensure cooler burning, optimax may be high RON, but is full of aditives to increase the RON level, not lead.

I'm pretty sure Optimax isn't a higher ron. Is Super Unleaded 98?

Other way round Daz, you cant run unleaded fuel in a car designed to leaded (Unless you have a conversion done) Leaded fuel runs cooler, thus cars that run on Unleaded require harder valve seats etc to withstand the temps of unleaded fuel.
Leaded, as it runs colder, can be run in a car designed for unleaded fuel no problems, though the exhaust gasses from leaded fuel will kill the CAT - if it has one.
