ive got a engine conversion in the pipeline, sumtime next year but i would like to gather as much info as poss so im clued up with what i need.
As far as cupra engines go i think its a no no as i will need new shocks, exhaust system, new dizzy and all the rest of that, therefore i think im going to be looking at VW engines, 1.8ltr for example.....
reccomendations for who is to carry out the engine swap?
previous experiences with seat engine swaps?
legalaties of this job, i.e what have i got to do for insurance purposes and road tax...etc
thanks for your help guys n gals

Okay, I can help with the legalities. You'll need your V5, and fill it in in the apropriate sections. You'll need to change: Engine no. Engine size cc Fuel type (If different, includes LPG conversions). Then send it off to DVLA Swansea, and your tax will automatically go up As for your insurance, simply phone them up, tell them exactly what has been changed, and they'll add the extra on top of your current premium. You'll have to send them a cheque for the remainder of the year if you pay yearly. Hope this helps mate, sounds like that Seat's gonna become very mean in the near future

You can run a VW engine no probs, just depends on what you want??
Your Ibiza is basically a MK4 VW polo same engine subframe etc just a few small changes in the body.
An easy swap would be the 1.4 16v or 1.6 8v from the polo these both run 100bhp standard and could easily see a good increase with filters ,4 branch manifold and a good exhaust.
The problem with dropping in a bigger motor is the left hand engine mount located on the cassis leg , does your model have one here??
Let me know and i point you in the direction of some possible conversions, but anything is poss including 2.8 VR6 or 20v Turbo!!
Cheers

I'm betting if you're putting a 1.8 with the gearbox in you'll need: Driveshafts, wiring loom, radiator (probably), hoses, struts with the hub (and brakes/calipers). You may as well get the Anti roll bar as well. If you're taking from a scrapped car, do yourself a favour and get the WHOLE wiring loom, including the wiring inside the car, as well as the fuse box attached. You can then get all the extras that might not come with your model.

Hows about a bigger engine from ur exact car aggadoo. The engine im swappin into mine doesnt really need much at all. All i need is engine/box/radiator/hoses/ECU and maybe the driveshafts
Checked the haynes and the wirin loom is exactly the same.Everythin plugs in the same place. Wont take the Si loom cos that has wires fitted for ABS,i dont have ABS they will give me crazy lights if i take them over so ill use my loom which doesnt involve ABS sensors etc...

If the car comes with ABS, you'll have driveshafts with the cogs on them and the struts will have sensors on them. If you don't fancy all the bending and cutting of copper piping, I'd consider it. Just the ABS ECU, the control box (in the engine) and the pipe work (which can be taken from the donor car). It's summer and can be sone on a sunny sunday. Just in time to stop you sliding into someone's car in the winter!

oh no, no no no.i dont want it, ive chopped up the loom for the Si behind the clocks!!! and i really dont wanna have to swap hubs etc... but i really wud like ABS! Ive noticed the 1800Si has the same diameter brakes as the 1400 crap box, i want 150bhp at least from the 1.8 and i cant use tiny brakes when i have the capability of flyin outta corners, ultra slow in,fast out... dont want that, i want last minute braking!
