so why do Virgin, the so excellent service, charge some customers half the price they charge other customers for exactly the same services??? Read above to see AX's Deal which i would guess other SKY customers are paying more god give me stregnth why Mark turned this into a Virgin Vs Sky thread when I originally started it as a Sky Broadband Review I havnt set out to do that, what ive set out is to show you that there CUSTOMER SERVICE is not as good as you suggest. There service once up and running however i can not fault (Upto now +2 months). I cant remember the last Down time i had with NTL but then again i'm not up as late as i used to be.

Ive just red something about the delay you had earlier on in the year Mark. It was a Sky customer service guy talking about the problems with delayed activations. The reason most are delayed is because Sky currently rely on BT Openreach to enable the connections in the exchanges. Initially they were quite happy to do it, but in recent months it seems BT have realised that Sky are now real threat in the broadband industry, and as Openreach is a BT company, they seem to be taking the pi$$ as much as they can. According to the guy, OFCOM are currently investigating the service Openreach is providing to Sky as they are not happy with the way things are happening either, as it only really affects the customer at the end of the day. He also stated that when they attempt to contact BT Openreach now to find out what the hell is taking so long, they can phone up 4 times on the same day and get 4 completely different answers. So it seems Sky are powerless at present to speed activations up until OFCOM kick BT's ass for shitting on Sky and more importantly the end users of the service. So when Sky say "theres a delay at the exchange", they really arnt joking, there is a delay, usually caused by BT Openreach doing things on a very relaxed "they get done when they get done" basis rather then rushing or prioritising things, and theres not much Sky can do about it. Damn BT cheeky Grrrs! Glad im on Sky Talk now, dont wanna give a penny more then I have to to BT! Bring on Sky phone line rental!

If ye are having problems, have ye tried contacting BT to check things like the gain ans the noise on the line etc??
Not really your responsibility, but it seems Openreach and Sky don't get on atm, so things take forever to be done.

Just tell them you will cancel the direct debit and take the issue to OFCOM if they dont resolve the pricing issue.

Unlucky, night time speeds for me are ace, getting 800 - 900KB/s from the fastest servers in download speeds, always get the same upload speeds no matter what time of day. However if you are on a BT L2TP as opposed to a Sky one (hence your on the "connect" package) then the problem will actually lie with BT's network rather then Sky. They are quite probably over-subscribing your exchange, hence the reason Sky are being very bitchy about how many subscribers they allow on their hardware. Have ye phoned Sky to let them know yet? BTW, by slow, how slow do you mean? Because on BT L2TP ADSL MAX lines its actually RADSL not straight ADSL anymore. So one is extremely unlikely to see near the 8Mbps quoted limit for them lines even at the best of times. At peak id say more like 2 - 3Mbps.

Done a line check and was getting about 500k.
Was taking 10 - 20 seconds to load google.co.uk

When ye think ye are getting a slowdown, test the speed using the cruisewirral server. Download the Cruisewirral DVD from http://www.xload.cruisewirral.com/images/cruisewirral-dvd.wmv and see what speeds ye get. I always use it to test me speed as LeaseWeb's network is stunning and it always gives far better and more realistic readings then most other servers and speed tests. I don't doubt what ye saying btw, just hleps give ye a better indication.
