Part of the problem is when they sold "OLD" Routers there was no security by default.
I know of a few places in Birkenhead where you can just pull up and piggy back the network for a while close the lid and drive off.
Modern Routers come with security on / well use a password to access the network at the least.

You need to log into the router. And switch on security to set a network key.
At a guess see if you can find your instructions or visit there home page.
Note, Changing the security settings you can also lock yourself out of your network. So make sure you also know how to rest the router also.

by rest, he means rest. Normally a tiny button the the back which you can press using a pen or pencil
Press and hold it in for around 30 secs to reset the settings to default (most take less than 30 secs to reset, but its best to say 30 secs)

Lol wasn't me who made the mistake pomp, I corrected mark and he edited my post to make me look stupid lol If you can't be arsed going into the loft.... If you go to internet explorer (or whatever you use) and type in: 192.168.1.254 in the address bar, and press enter, you will get a username and password information dialog. Enter admin for the username and leave the password blank You should get a settings screen. If you then select 'Wireless' for then click 'Configure WEP' you will be able to enter a key of your choice (normally a minimum of 6 characters) there. Take a look here for more info

Lol good good, but still looks like I made a typo. Nevermind lol 192.168.1.254 - That looks like a linksy ip ? That information is taken off their website, so it's the default IP for their routers.
