Yeah, but the Alpina still aint as fast as the Brabus. And to be technical, the "M" division is only to BMW what AMG is to Merc, and the E55 AMG is as good as the M5 in most respects.
Regardless, the Brabus is faster then the Alpina anyways lol.
It makes me laugh, Andy posts up about a fantastic car that he has had the pleasure of driving over the weekend, and all you can say is a tuned Merc is better when you havent even driven any - in fact, Id be surprised if you have even driven a std E55 or 5 series...
The M5 was faster round the top gear test track, is cheaper than the E55 AMG, has a smaller engine, and IIRC correctly, everytime a manufacture brings out a hot luxury saloon, they sing its prasies - the only drawback is always the M5.
Sometimes its not about figures, its what the whole package does with them.
You just dont like Mercs cos your a Beemer man... ya probably likely to may an M5 would give a Veyron a run for its money, just because the Veyron isnt a Beemer.
I didnt slate the M5 in a single sentence, all I did was correct the point about the M5 being the quickest 5 door car built.
I havent driven either of them, there aint many 21 year olds who will have, are you telling me you have driven the E55 AMG, M5 and Brabus E V12 to judge and base you opinion of the M5 being the best? If not, your just a hypocrite.
Your to one compairing it to another car not me... I also didnt say the M5 was the best, just that it was better on paper and the majority of reviews say its the best.
(I have also driven an M5 )
The Veyron is also a 2 seater, speciality super car (in case you hadnt noticed), and in this context uncompairable...
Well, I've driven the M5 & the E55 AMG & as an overall package I prefer the M5, although I suspect the Merc. is ultimately faster in a straight line; the owner claims 196 on the autobahn. Other cars I've enjoyed over the past few months include: Porsche 968 CS (shared drive to the Nürburgring), Porsche 993, Porsche 996 Turbo. Still waiting to try the Carrera GT. Perhaps the most exciting was passenger laps at the 'Ring in the car pictured; 997 GT3 Cup during practice for a VLN 4 hour race.
er...havent you forgotten the new audi rs6...methinks it will give both the merc and bmw a hard time...and you can throw the kids in the back and the dog in the boot! the engine is 5.0-litre V10 twin-turbo petrol engine with FSI direct injection. it pushes out 580 PS (426 kW) and 650 Nm at 1,500 to 6,250 rpm. This takes just 4.6 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) – and only 14.9 seconds to get all the way up to 124 mph (200 km/h).
However, its 4x4, needs a pair of turbos, costs £10k more than the M5 and it isnt available yet - and IIRC they are now doing an M5 Estate, or touring as BMW like to call them..
Funny how the thread has changed from a "How lucky am I to get a go in an M5" to "Its not that good, all these cars are better"
indeed..quattro is far superior imho!...pair of turbos is better..less lag!...the 10k differnece in price tag is quickly made up in "extras" on the bmw...and you can now get them... Ive driven a 330 bmw (and still infact drive it!) and own a4 quattro...the a4 wins hands down every time!
Well, I hope its better than the S4 The M5 was over 4 secs quicker on Top gear. Extra Cabin space combined with the 4x4 transmission means new Quattro Audis are a little nose heavy and tent to understeer. At the end of the day I guess a lot depends on your driving style.
All I can say is the M5 is a great car, and I think thats what Andy was saying - its not everyday you get to drive a car of this type
(Any more thread driftage, Ill have the thread cleansed and locked )
well its like i said, i did have the s4 for the whole of thursday, i found that the s4 was more refined, but the m5 lashed all over the s4 performance wise !
Uncertainty or not knowing causes depression, Im happy because I know I'm going to die one day!
