Well... I have just ordered o2 Broadband! I was going to hang on to Sky as im damned happy with their broadband service, but as o2 will only do the offer of free activation + a 100 day money back guarantee until the end of today, I decided to have a good read around and see what came up.
Some excellent review's about the service, people moving from allsorts of ISP's and getting better speed's, o2 even chasing BT to get a MAC code on behalf of the customer. These things are important to me as im happy with the service from Sky Broadband.
So, the bonus's for me are:
1000 Email - Text per month (handy for my business)
Upto 1.3Mbps Upload (again, handy for my business, sometimes I do a lot of uploading)
Still upto 8Mbps downstream
Freephone UK customer support (free from my mobile too)
£7.50 per month as opposed to Sky's £5.00 per month.
The reason I have finally decided to jump ship? Not because of the Sky Broadband service in any way, but simply because I am now in a scenario where I am not using the Sky much, and the ponce's who came out to fix it the other day replaced a connector and got off - Sky paid them £40 for that pleasure!
So unless I manage to get a Sky engineer out, the service won't be back to normal. Therefore, even though I can fix it myself again, I am now losing interest in the service altogether and am on the verge of getting a Topup TV box solely for the PVR function's.
The way im looking at it is, if I don't get rid of Sky then thats fair enough, but say I do in a couple of month's or whatever, then it means I am then lumbered with having to find a new ISP, which would almost certainly be o2, but by then they will be charging for their activation and wireless box etc...
I can move back to Sky no problem, and o2 are including a 100 day money back guarantee. They will also allow you to move house once per 12 month's with no charges for doing so. And I don't know for sure ill be still living here in 12 month's.
But all in all, it give's me freedom; if I leave Sky, I dont lose my broadband deal. Im not leaving o2 as I have a great contract with them that I won't get elsewhere, and they have always treated me fairly and provided me with an excellent service. Not that Sky havent to be fair, but I will not be getting rid of my mobile phone; I may get rid of the Sky.
So got to phone up Sky now for a MAC code... wish me luck!!
