yeah the more I think about it, the more it probably make's sense, given the period the buildings were built, and mystique of them, they probably would have tunnels under them, even if they were only small, maybe even air raid shelters built during the war that kinda progressed into a small series of tunnels, ye never know.
A real possibility imho, especially given the fact there seem's to be freakin tunnels everywhere else in the Wirral lol!!

The Roumor is behind the steel door is a brick wall that would have taken you into a smaller cave entrance which was the "Armery" or stores. But can not be proved.
We know where very closely that steel door should come out but we could not find the exit for it and suspect its either burried, or in the hill side.
I walked up to the steel door, with my wellies on and give it a good kick. It was solid and no echo behind it at all. It appeared to be welded from the other side to be so tight and seem as one with the frame.
The steel door was like a ships inner door. With a hinge and overlap, type of set up. These had been bent back over and the door was as solid as stone conclusion welded in place.
If there is anything under the observatory i doubt its connected at all. Its seems back then any one with a spoon was digging a tunnel lol.

Me and Toto found the exit of the steel door, but nobody takes any notice or believes us... one day we will get our asses into gear and do some digging...
Even if its not the steel door, its linked to it, and it has been suggested that there was a room coming off the steel door to store ammunitions; however I am very cautious about rumor's, given these 12ft hole" rumors and the like that were doing the round before we got in; we found a few 12mm hole's, but no 12ft holes lol.

That's where we have said yes, but also people on the original 28 days later thread mentioned that was a way in years ago... I havent seen anyone come up with any alternative location's as yet, yet nobody seems interested in that place.

i agree with the theory that it was some sort of armoury.from my experience in the army, armoury doors are often double doors with a very small airlock type space in between .this would explain no echo, they also tend to be very thick. maybe the brick wall is in between the two doors. this subject gets more intriguing by the day
It all makes perfect sense expressed in dollars and cents ,pound shillings and pence

Id like to believe it, but as I say, there were just too much "shite" flowing through the rumor mill before we got in, and we disproved most of the rumors, some from supposedly reputable sources, when we eventually made our entrance. In a way, it was almost deflating to have heard of all the different stories before we went in about what was in there and the dangers that lay ahead, to get in there and find nothing but tunnels and smashed toilets lol. But it help's make it all the more intruiging, which in turn lends more enthusiasm for finding out the truth, and im all for these rumor's, I just dont believe anything until I see it now.

Yes it can be a new cave or entrance thing, but the steel door we walked to ends inline with the first house on the main road. I found that huge concrete cross in the undergrowth. The Wooden Beam and concrete can and thinking about it now is probably something seeing the way the council deals with holes. And if it is then who knows what's behind it.

well id say we need to investigate this more then, because right now, it's a piece of the jigsaw that still remain's unsolved.
I really want to find out where that entrance went, and I know for a fact toto does too; we will have to arrange something when the kids are back at school after their holiday next week (god help us the hooligans are let loose again).

Mark is this the first house on hoylake road ,weather permitting im going for a scout around tomorrow If you are going there tomorrow, im up for popping down and having a look with ye matey as I have to go to my mums and it's on the way to her flat in Bidston Village. Id love to have a proper skirmish, last summer, it seemed once we were in we almost "forgot" about the adventuring and concentrated solely on the documentation of what was available to us. Tis a shame really cos it really bugs me to know where that door led to, and also what is behind that mound of earth me and toto found. I also wouldnt mind looking on the outside for any sign of the right exit, although I doubt anything can be found as I question whether it was ever built.

Yeh i dont have time right now to search that post, but im my topic i have pictures with a GPS hand held with me. I cover the other entrances, and also the shaft entrance. The Entrance ive heard about if you go to the main road. Turn and face the hill where the bus stop is near the first house (Bidston hill side) you could see the opening to another cave, and it was BIG they would / could reverse lorries in there. From a few peeps that have taken me that way, you can actually see man made cuttings in the rock. But its beend heavely covered over. What time you thinking of going over as i may come and enlighten you Matty you fancy it too ?
