A car design team are bringing back memories of a famous scene from a James Bond movie by producing a car that can travel under water.
In the 007 film The Spy Who Loved Me, Roger Moore as Bond was seen driving a car that doubled as a boat.
The scene was shot using animation, but more than 30 years later Swiss company Rinspeed has come up with a concept car - the sQuba.
The sQuba, to be displayed at next month's Geneva Motor Show, is an open-topped sports car that can go over land, above the waves and even under the water to a depth of 10 metres.
Rinspeed took a sports car and replaced the engine with several electric motors. Three motors are located in the back of the vehicle, with one providing propulsion on land and the other two driving the screws for underwater motoring.
Once under water, the car occupants' breathing air comes from an integrated tank of compressed air similar to that used by scuba divers.
The company claims that the car is not only revolutionary but extremely "green" as well. It is a zero-emission vehicle and has a salt water-resistant interior.
Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht, 52, who is a keen James Bond fan, said: "For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.
"It is undoubtedly not an easy task to make a car watertight and pressure resistant enough to be manoeuvrable under water. The real challenge, however, was to create a submersible car that moves like a fish in water."
He went on: "For safety reasons, we have built the vehicle as an open car so that the occupants can get out quickly in an emergency. With an enclosed cabin, opening the door might be impossible."

So, it goes underwater, but its an open top car Do the occupants have to wear goggles and breath through tubes / masks?

Yeah, I read that, but if its not an enclosed cabin how does it get from tank to moulth An enclosed cabin, like the Lotus in the Bond film would be really cool, but this just sounds like a soft top that goes underwater with some scuba tanks strapped to it. ....for a start you'd get wet

It appears to be based on a Lotus Elise (at least they stuck with the Lotus Theme) and, yes, you do get wet Pics link
