Indentical air raid shelters were built at the same time at Stockport. The only difference being that a few years ago, the local council had the brains and the foresight to re-open the tunnels to the paying public. Guided tours or wander round yourself. Some tunnels have had the bunks and other wartime equipment re-installed.
Can't provide a direct link, but ask that nice Mr Google for "Stockport Air Raid Shelters" and he will cough up all the info. times, charges etc.
It highlights very nicely what absolute useless septic cretins Wirral Council (or whatever name they are hiding behind this week) are. If Stockport can do it (very well) then Wirral could. It is criminal that they are sitting on such a piece of history and not letting Joe Public - who pays their grossly inflated wages, have a look in.
Grrrrrrr. time for MORE pills !!

Well Done It was stripped after the war and the toilets salvaged for the new Woodchurch Estate.
In 1948 it was rented by the Ministry of Food for storage. Didn't know that

But Chris i thought you were 55 Thanks for that, Mark. Yes, a link to this topic would have been good in a way, but a bit risky for my contact Andrew, since it contains some pics. which show H&S issues.
Carpe diem.

Might be wrong, but I suspect it would be Andrew's breath. It would be quite cool down there in summer. Likewise warmer than "outside" during winter months. Depending on depth and any airflow, temp. would probably be around a constant 50F/10C.
