It's been a very emotional day today, some personal reasons and some because of news reports!

It started with the coverage of the Armistice Day Ceremony - watching the gentleman who wanted to place his own wreath made me weep, as did seeing the lads out in Afghanistan and the Ceremony in Ypres.

Then came the news report about the 17mth old boy and his injuries at the hands of his "incubator" - I can't call her his mother as no mother could sit back whilst that happened to her son - her boyfriend and the lodger!!

After that, came the 89 yr old man who was beaten by burglars, and his disabled wife who was found cowering and in shock and the couple in Lancashire who were found dead on their 55th wedding anniversary, not to mention the "man" who kicked his dog half to death in a lift!

I knew there was a reason I stopped watching the news years ago!

I know of several people who have been rather emotional today, and just wonder if anyone else is the same. Is it because of all the terrible things we are being exposed to or is it something in the air?

Glad it's not just me then. As a rule, I'm not really an over emotional person, but this has been a harsh 24hours!

Maybe you're right Wheels, maybe it is just age getting the better of me. Tarot has been duly hugged and sends a kiss to Harvey.

I too have been through a rough time lately and the news on tv just seems to add to the grief. So I am ignoring it for now.

My dad had a brain haemorrhage on halloween Friday in the day. We weren't sure he'd make it to Saturday morning despite being transferred to the Walton Centre. They operated on the Saturday, removing the haemorrhage and the thing that caused it - an AVM.

But I am going to turn this sad thread around and say that despite it being one of the worst times of our lives as a family, there is good news. My dad is getting ready to come home in the next few days and had made what can only be described as a miraculous recovery. We feared the worst but he seems to be back to his normal self.

Also, my brother and his wife had a bouncing baby boy last Wednesday. Born by c-section he weighed in at 8lb 10oz.

Life - its good and its bad. It keeps us on our toes.

I'm so glad your Dad made it through - He's lucky having such good daughters and a close knit family!! It makes all the difference!

Just sad that bad things happen to good people, while the bad people get away scott free.

I just hope that some of your Dads luck rubs off on my friend!

Welcome to the world little Harrison thumbsup and Congrats to the proud Parents!

It just proves the old saying about swings and roundabouts. Bad news, good news. Very glad about your dad and the baby and my thorough hatred goes out to those "people" who tortured that poor child.

What I don't understand is why they can't be named? They are not under age are they?

I believe they are under 18 and the "sperm donor" cannot read or write, not sure if the "incubator" can either.

I'm all for naming regardless of age I'm afraid! Damn the PC Brigade!!

I'm with you on that especially as they named two ten year olds when they were found guilty of murdering James Bulger. What is the difference?
