Hello! I can't seem to download the attached photo - are you able to send by PM or contact me by email? My great granddad ran the Arab Arms and the Lord Raglan Hotels for a time. Thank you!

Basically yes, it costs Mark to run the forum (UBB software fees, servers etc) and he made the decision some time ago that users should pay if they want full access. There are some other benefits which I can't remember but things like the number of PM's or whatever.

The strange thing about the first floor of this pub...it seems to be false.
Was it bombed in the war, and the roof rebuilt covering just the ground floor?

I think it was either extended up or rebuilt in 1882.

There's newspaper snippets in the Liverpool Mercury, 1852, just searching for Arab Arms, Watson St.

Searching for Arab Arms Hotel, the first hit is 1886, no hits for Arab Arms Hotel prior to that date.

The 1886 snippet is an advert for 3 waitresses for a large concert room.

The photo and children in it looks earlier than the war?

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.

The pic I posted is from BFA 1950 which made think it was bombed because the actual roof is lower than the 1st floor walls.
If it wasn't bombed, don't you think it is strange to build a fake 1st floor facade?

I zoomed the best I could and I reckon the roof line (Flat roof part) is about blue line.

In the original picture you can see the top of the brickwork of the house next door which makes the roof of the Arab look lower when I zoom in from the BFA image.
Having said that, you are probably right Bert. wink
